Ladbrokes Tip: The Queensland Guineas is a credible lead-up into the Winx Guineas on the Sunshine Coast each winter.
The Winx Guineas is held at the tail-end of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival the Saturday after Brisbane’s Tattersall’s Tiara Day and takes place at the Corbould Park Racecourse at Caloundra in late June or early July.
A set weights race for three-year-olds contested over 1600m, the event was first run in 2000 and gained its current Group 3 status in 2014.
The Winx Guineas currently offers a total of $175,000 in prize money and attracts a strong line-up of winter three-year-olds each year. It takes place on the same day as the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) and was renamed in 2020 to honour the 2015 champion Winx who went on to win her next 32 straight races.
A good lead-up race is the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) now held in May.
The latest edition of the Winx Guineas ran on Sunday July 11th, 2021 having been rescheduled after heavy rainfall forced the original meeting to be abandoned and was eventually won by a big margin by Our Playboy.

- To Win: #1 Tumbler Ridge ($8 at time of publish)
Bumper field and open market, with a nice price offered on the ultra-consistent Tumbler Ridge drawn to get the run of the race from the inside alley. Form shows he’s up for a win with 4-1-4-1-4 his last five. Ryan Maloney rides the nicely-bred Spill The Beans colt who was fourth earlier this winter in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas before winning Eagle Farm’s Gold Jewel over 1300m two back. Last start fourth in the TL Clooney at Ipswich saw him only a half-length beaten in a blanket finish and back up to 1600m he looks prime for success.
