Wyong Gold Cup 2021

Friday September 3, 2021

The Wyong Gold Cup is a $200,000 feature race contested at Wyong Racecourse on a Friday in early September as part of the wider Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

Run over 2100m the day prior to Randwick’s Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes Day card, the Wyong Gold Cup is a quality handicap race and the winner of the Wyong Cup Prelude is exempt from ballot for the showdown.

Considered a strong springboard race into the tougher staying races in Sydney over the spring, the Wyong Gold Cup has been won by plenty of nice horses over the years.

The Wyong Gold Cup form has also proven to stack-up in upcoming Group 1 Spring Carnival races like The Metropolitan (2400m). The Verminator (2011) was the last horse to complete the Wyong Gold Cup – The Metropolitan double. He also contested that season’s edition of the coveted Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on the first Tuesday of November.

The Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) is the key support act on the Wyong Gold Cup race card.

The latest edition of the Wyong Gold Cup took place on Friday September 3, 2021 and was won by evergreen eight-year-old Berdibek.
