Tuesday is generally one of the quietest days in the racing world, but one of our punters had a Tuesday that he will never forget yesterday after he turned $100 into $16,744 with a four leg multi bet.
Our punter made a conservative start to his multi bet when he selected Pat Carey-trained Marleesand to take out the Shojun Concrete Handicap (1000m) in race 5 at Geelong and the California Dane mare took up the running in the early stages of the race before she proved far too strong when asked for an extra effort by jockey Rhys McLeod to salute at even money.
Leg 1 – Marleesand Wins Geelong Race 5 at $2
He took a much bigger risk in the second leg of his multi and selected $6.50 chance Nippa Bleu to take out the Royal Geelong Yacht Club Handicap (2000m) in race seven at Geelong.
Nippa Bleu had not recorded a race win since July of 2013 and he looked like he was going to be denied by David Hayes-trained D’orsevist in the final stages of the race at Geelong, but he made up a great deal of ground in the final 100 metres to record a visually impressive and keep our punters multi alive.
Leg 2 – Nippa Bleu Wins Geelong Race 7 at $6.50
Our lucky punter turned his attention to New South Wales and the Coffs Harbour meeting when he backed Johnny Feedback at a quote of $4.60 in the Northcoast Event Hire Class 1 Handicap (1415m).
Johnny Feedback was well-backed in the lead-up to the race and he started the $15,000 event as favourite before he stormed down the outside of the Coffs Harbour track to give our punter three wins from as many legs.
Leg 3 – Johnny Feedback Wins Coffs Harbour Race 7 at $4.60
After only outlaying $100, our punter now only needed dominant Zarlu to take out the fifth race at Wagga Wagga to deliver him a massive win.
Zarlu has been a consistent performer on the country New South Wales circuit, but he had a big weight on his back in the benchmark 55 handicap and he was settled towards the tail of the field in the early stages of the race.
Zarlu was still in front of only one horse at the 600 metre mark, but he was peeled to the outside of the track by Brad Clark and he showed a very impressive turn-of-foot to record a very narrow win over a gallant Sir Ottavio.
With two very close photos finishes, there is no doubt that our punter had a very stressful Tuesday afternoon, but he now has 16,744 reasons to celebrate his big day on the punt!
Leg 4 – Zarlu Wins Wagga Wagga Race 5 at $2.80
