Australia vs England ODI Cricket Preview

Australia’s disastrous Ashes campaign has undoubtedly stolen the headlines of their current tour of England but Steve Smith’s men are on their way towards something of a redemption having gone 2-1 up in their five match one day series.

Australia can sew up the series with a win over England on Friday night, but will need to produce a far more convincing effort than that mustered for a disappointing 93 run loss on Tuesday night.

We’re offering the best odds on everything from highest wicket taker and most runs scored to outright victor on the fourth and fifth ODI matches between Australia and England!

The Series So Far

Australia’s form against England through the recent Ashes series appeared to be franked when Eoin Morgan’s men delivered a defeat in a one-off T20 clash on September 3rd, but the Aussies responded well in producing two solid efforts to win the first two ODI fixtures.

Setting a credible 305 from 50 overs at the Rose Bowl in Southampton in their first match, Aussie quicks Nathan Coulter-Nile and Mitchell Starc continued to find good areas and led the country to a comfortable 59 run success.

Match 2 saw England win the toss and elect to bowl; allowing Australia a competitive 7/309 off 50 overs. England’s chase was bolstered by an impressive 85 from Captain Eoin Morgan, but the hosts again crashed to a 64 run defeat.

Aaron Finch was recalled to the Australian squad to replace the injured David Warner for the third ODI and stamped his claims for a regular spot with a well-crafted 53. Finch unfortunately was the shining light for the Aussies, who were unable to chase down the 300 set by England; crashing to a comfortable 93 run defeat – allowing England to stay alive in the series.

Australia vs England ODI Game 4

Australia won the Cricket World Cup on home soil earlier this year, and will do everything in their power to take something from their tour of England with an ODI series win.

Sights will be set on Headingley in Leeds on Friday night, where Australia can once and for all take the series away from their arch rivals.

Opener Joe Burns is yet to make much of an impact through his three appearances this series and will be the sort of player Australia will look towards for improvement in the fourth ODI on Friday.

Keeper Matt Wade has looked great behind the stumps and with the bat; top scoring in the second match before posting a healthy 42 in Australia’s losing effort on Tuesday night.

The key to success for England clearly lies with good spells from their spinning contingent, and both Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid have found excellent form through the series.

Australia have proven they are capable of success in the 50 over format in England, and should have taken plenty from their loss in the third ODI earlier this week. The Aussies remain clear favourites to defeat England in ODI game 4 and in turn claim the series.
