Prior to The Metropolitan, Magic Hurricane had returned to racing for third in a Rosehill minor over 1400m on August 15th; progressing to success in the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) and second behind Preferment in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) on September 19th.
Partnered by leading Godolphin hoop James McDonald, Magic Hurricane left as clear race favourite at a quote of $3.
The Chris Waller-trained Beaten Up has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time and our punter was confident he would continue to impress in The Metropolitan; installing the seven-year-old as his second-place pick in each of his six combinations.
Having returned for a particularly strong fourth in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) first-up on August 2nd, Beaten Up continued to improve over increasing distances and was able to use the rails draw in The Metropolitan to his advantage.
Owing to the depth of talent confirmed in The Metropolitan field, our punter elected to box up three runners to finish third and the same three runners to finish fourth to complete the lucrative first four wager.
Junoob was the first horse he elected to include for the minors, but the son of Haafhd was unable to replicate his heroics in the 2014 edition of the race and finished a disappointing ninth.
John O’Shea and Godolphin saddled five of the nine race winners at Royal Randwick on Saturday and were offered a genuine opportunity to quinella The Metropolitan after also confirming Havana Cooler in the field.

Having failed to finish outside the first three in his three Australian starts prior Saturday’s race, Hong Kong hoop Zac Purton immediately led the entire to the fore of the field from jump but he simply ran out of steam by the conclusion of the race; holding on for a credible fourth and completing our punter’s incredible two and a half minutes.
