Conor McGregor walked away with the hefty sum of $590,000 following his devastating knock-out win over Jose Aldo at UFC 194 on Sunday, but he was not the only person to win big from the UFC this weekend.
One of our punters put together a seven-leg UFC multi that covered three different cards that took place over the weekend and in doing so he managed to turn $20 into $2830.25!
The multi started towards at the end of last week during the UFC Fight Night card that was headlined by the women’s strawweight bout between Paige VanZant and Joanne Calderwood and our punter selected MMA prodigy Sage Northcutt to beat Cody Pfister within three rounds at a quote of $1.45 and he got off to a trouble free start when Northcutt won by guillotine choke in the second round.
Our punter then turned his attention to The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale card on Saturday (AEDT) and he backed Tony Ferguson ($1.61) to beat Edson Barboza and Frankie Edgar to cement himself as the number 1 contender to Conor McGregor at a quote of $1.57.
He took the biggest risk in his multi when he threw his support behind Warlley Alves to beat Colby Covington by submission on the UFC 194 preliminary card, but that bet paid off in a big way when Alves won in the first round with an exciting guillotine choke.
The UFC 194 main card started with a fairly boring fight between Max Holloway and Jeremy Stephens, but that did not bother our punter as he backed Holloway to win by decision at $1.95.
The multi went closest to falling down in the penultimate leg, where our punter backed Yoel Romero to record an upset win over Ronaldo Souza.
Romero dominated the early stages of the fight and went close to finishing Souza, but Souza hung tough and went very close to stealing a submission victory, but Romero was able to make it to the bell and was awarded a very close decision win.
Our punters multi and his $2830.25 came down to the final leg, the UFC Middleweight Championship bout between Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold, and what a fight it was.
Weidman had never been beaten in the UFC, but our punter was still happy to back Luke Rockhold at a quote of $2.20.
The UFC Middleweight Champion took out the first round and looked in good shape, but Rockhold took control in the second round, almost won the fight in the third and the referee put Weidman out of his misery in the fourth to deliver Rockhold the title and our punter a legendary land!
