While most of us spent Boxing Day either cashing in on sales or recovering from a Christmas food coma, this savvy punter made the most of a cracking Saturday racing card at Randwick!
With just three legs, this lad elected to invest in a few long-shots rather than multiple short-priced runners.
The first leg didn’t look good at the 400m mark when the James Cummings trained mare Tree of Jesse turned into the straight with seven horses in front of it. The four-year-old began to muster and hit the line strong to win by ¾ of a length over the race favourite Thud. One leg down, two to go!
The punter elected to sit out of Race 6 and turned their attention to the seventh in Sydney where they needed $13 shot Cradle Me to salute, and that it did in magnificent style. Jason Collett rode patiently at the back of the field before sneaking up on the inside to claim victory. The hardest leg was complete, and all this punter needed was the second-favourite in Race 8 to land their multi!
All hopes of winning laid with Rule The River, who looked promising leading up to the race following three straight wins. The Anthony Cummings trained mare won comfortably in the end to land the eighth at Randwick and leave this Ladbrokes customer jumping for joy.
This lad might be kicking himself, however, having only placed $1.70 on the multi at odds of $459!
