2016 World Twenty20 Super Ten Round 3 Preview

2016 World Twenty20 Super Ten Round 3 Preview

The 2016 World Twenty20 has been an absolute ripper to date and we have been treated to a number of outstanding games of cricket.

Only four teams will qualify for the semi-finals and there are a number of tournaments favourites that desperately need to win this round to keep alive their chances of progressing – none more so than Australia.

I have analysed all four games set to take place during the next stage of the tournament and I am confident that I have found a number of winners at a good price.

Australia vs BangladeshTuesday 22 March, 1:00am, M. Chinnaswarmy Stadium

Australia bounced back from a poor start with the ball in their opening World Twenty20 clash with New Zealand to restrict their rivals to a very gettable title, but their run chase was nothing short of a disaster.

The likes of Shane Watson, David Warner and Steve Smith all threw away their wickets at crucial times and the sides inability to score quick runs over the Kiwi spinners was a big red flag.

Bangladesh struggled with both the bat and ball and history is against them in this clash as they have lost all three of their previous Twenty20 encounters against Australia.

Australia have a clear edge over Bangladesh in terms of their bowling stock, but there is still no way that they should be as short as the $1.18 on offer.

Outside of Steve Smith, the Australian top order really struggles against quality spin bowling and if the likes of Saqlain Sajib are able to bowl well than Bangladesh are a genuine winning chance here at big odds.

Recommended Bet: Bangladesh To Win @ $4.60

New Zealand vs PakistanWednesday 23 March, 1:00am, Punjab Cricket Association Stadium

This is one of the most interesting games of this stage of the tournament.

New Zealand have been the standout side in the 2016 World Twenty20 to date and – led by Mitchell Santner – they have produced two outstanding bowling performances to score impressive wins over both India and New Zealand.

Their problem has been with the bat and if they continue to bat as poorly as they have been they are not realistic winning chances.

Pakistan were far too good in their opening game with Bangladesh, but they failed to fire with the bat against India and they were restricted to just 118 runs.

There is no doubt that Pakistan is an inconsistent side across all forms of the game, but they have won eight of their 14 Twenty20 clashes with New Zealand and are good value at their current odds of $2.20.

Recommended Bet: Pakistan To Win @ $2.20

England vs AfghanistanWednesday 23 March, 8:00pm, Feroz Shah Kotla

England showed off their Twenty20 credentials with an outstanding batting performance against South Africa and if they can replicate that performance with the bat they will be very tough to beat.

Afghanistan are yet to record a win in the Super 10 stage of the tournament, but they have been far from disgraced against both Sri Lanka and South Africa and it was some individual brilliance from AB de Villiers that cost the Afghanis in their previous match.

I expect Afghanistan to put up a fight here against England in what will be a high-scoring affair, but the English batting line-up should have enough quality to get them home – although there is little value at their odds of $1.13.

India vs BangladeshThursday 24 March, 1:00am, Eden Gardens

India bounced back from their opening game defeat at the hands of New Zealand to record a comfortable victory over Pakistan and there were a number of promising signs in the victory.

India have played Bangladesh in Twenty20 cricket on four occasions and they have been successful in each of these meetings – including two very comfortable wins in the Asia Cup last month.

Bangladesh have always struggled against their neighbours in all three forms of cricket and although I believe they are a chance of getting the job done against Australia, I don’t have that same confidence here.

In saying that, India have proven themselves as unreliable betting teams as favourites in recent times and I couldn’t possibly back them at their current quote of $1.20.
