The days of athletes with haircuts that you can set your watch to are long gone and as the salaries of our athletes have increased, so has the quantity of simply outrageous haircuts.
Lionel Messi has become the latest athlete to join the list of athletes with highly questionable haircuts, but sadly his unique hairdo is far from the worse that has graced the sporting arena in recent years.
We have put together this list of Sport’s Greatest ‘WTF’ Haircuts and there really are some absolute shockers!
Lionel Messi
The Lionel Messi midlife crisis tour continues!
The only explanations for this disaster of a haircut are that Messi is a big fan of Aaron Ramsay, he fancies himself as the second coming of Jason Akermanis or he is trying to divert attention away from the fact that he has retired from international football.

Johnathan Thurston
Johnathan Thurston is a future immortal, but he is already a member of the sporting haircut hall of shame.
His dreadlock number from his time with the Canterbury Bulldogs is an absolute ripper!

Dustin Martin
Say what you will about Dustin Martin, but he has stayed remarkably loyal to his haircut throughout his AFL career!

Ivan Maric
Ivan Maric is a classic old school footballer and his entire demeanor is summed up by his legendary mullet!

Taylor Walker
Taylor Walker now has a straight back and sides that would make Johnny Unitas proud, but when he first came into the AFL he had a glorious mullet that even left Maric to shame!
He is a better bloke now that the mullet has gone, but is he a better player?

David Beckham
There is doubt that David Beckham is a good looking rooster, but he has done his best to hide this fact over the years with a string of questionable haircuts.
His best effort was when he elected to go with cornrows and he later admitted that he must have been drunk when he went to the hairdresser and requested the cornies!
Harry Kewell
Harry Kewell was never really able to match it with David Beckham in the football stakes, but he did give him a run for his money in the awful haircut stakes.
His decision to go with two ponytails could not have come at the worst time for his reputation – he had played about 12 minutes in two seasons and produced a couple of stinkers for the Socceroos.

Ronaldo
Ronaldo was one of the stars of the 2002 World Cup and he helped Brazil to victory, but the main talking point was his truly awful haircut.
We will never know exactly what he was thinking, but I doubt he ran out of money to get the buzz cut completed…

David Williams
David Williams aka as The Wolfman is one of the great characters in the modern history of the NRL and he apparently gave up a promising modelling career to grow out his hair and beard to a simply glorious magnitude.

Daly Cherry-Evans
The majority of people officially turned on Daly Cherry-Evans when he back flipped on his decision to move to the Gold Coast Titans, but I was off the bloke when he produced this absolute stinker of a haircut.

Todd Carney
Sadly this haircut does not even crack the top ten in our list of the most WTF moments in Todd Carney’s rugby league career.
Carney got into the Eminem craze about ten years late, but we all know that he has a serious thirst for gold!

Carl Webb
Carl Webb is a proud Queenslander, but he may have taken his pride for his state a bit too far…

Andrew Johns
Andrew Johns off-field issues did not really surface until after he retired from rugby league, but the signs were there for a very long time!

Nathan Fyfe
Nathan Fyfe is an outstanding footballer and that is probably the only reason why we haven’t mocked him earlier for the fact that he wears a headband on the footy field.
We have never really been sure what Fyfe was trying to achieve with this haircut and I personally wouldn’t mind seeing him go down the Taylor Walker route – as long as it is isn’t like cutting the hair of Samson.

Michael Hurley
Michael Hurley is obviously a big fan of the Big Pineapple and he did his very best imitation of the Sunshine Coast-tourist attraction during the 2015 AFL season.
Lets hope that Hurley returns from suspension with a more sensible haircut.

Djibril Cisse
Djibril Cisse has always been a fairly overrated footballer for the majority of his career and the only thing that has kept him relevant over the years is his incredible array of colourful haircuts.
Picking his worst is a very tough task and we could fill an entire list with some of these shockers!
Neymar
They say that the mullet is business in front, party in the back but Neymar clearly wanted it to party all the time with this haircut that he produced at the start of his career.
Neymar might be a better footballer than Cisse, but he is also giving him a run for his money in terms of WTF haircuts.

Bas Savage
Bas Savage is somewhat of a plodder in terms of football ability, but his string of colourful haircuts have seen him enter the headlines.
He took his obsession to another level when he paid tribute to Spiderman during his stint with Dagenham and Redbridge in the League One.

Simon Whitlock
Simon Whitlock is an Australian sporting legend, but there are probably not many sports where you would be able to get away with this sort of haircut.
How much hair does this bloke have!

Peter Wright
Whitlock has far from the most outrageous haircut on the professional darts circuit.
Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright changes the colour of his Mohawk before every single tournament and he even adds a Christmas touch for the World Championships in December!

Tom Brady
Tom Brady has a net worth of $120 million, but you can’t buy taste and he became the source of public ridicule when he turned his hair into a public tribute to Justin Bieber.

Don Mattingly
Don Mattingly just refused to shave his sideburns and he was ceremoniously kicked out of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant Softball Team!
