There is no jockey anywhere in Australia that is riding better than Jeff Lloyd and his exerted his dominance over his rivals with another stellar day of riding at the Sunshine Coast.
Lloyd rode seven winners in 12 races and looks set for another big day at Eagle Farm this weekend.
The veteran South African is far from the first jockey to have an absolute day out and we have put together this list of hoops that gave punters plenty of joy on a single day of racing.
Jeff Lloyd
The dominance of Lloyd in Queensland racing is truly remarkable.
Not only is he 55 years-of-age, but he suffered a stroke in 2013 and it looked as though he would never ride again.
That is now ancient history and Lloyd showed up his younger rivals once again at the Sunshine Coast earlier this week to break the record for the most metropolitan race wins in a single day.
Frankie Dettori
Frankie Dettori stamped himself as a household name with his magnificent seven wins at Royal Ascot in 1996.
To ride seven winners on one of the biggest days in world racing is a truly remarkable feat and the fact that he did it on a couple of outsiders made it even more impressive.
Punters had an absolute fill-up as an incredible number of small all-up bets on the popular jockey ensured that bookies suffered one of their worst days in history.
Richard Hughes
Richard Hughes joined Dettori as the only rider to claim seven victories at a UK meeting when he almost rode the card at Windsor in 2012.
Hughes originally only had seven rides on the card, but after his stunning start to the day he was selected as the replacement rider for Ryan Moore on Mama Quilla in the last, who duly saluted.
Chris Antley
This feat was achieved across two separate race days, but it is still very impressive.
In 1987 champion American jockey Chris Antely rode four winners during the day at the Aqueduct Racetrack in New York and five later that night at The Meadowlands in New Jersey.
Antley is one of the most successful jockeys in the history of North American racing, but he sadly passed away in 2000 at just 34 years of age.
Robert Thompson
Robert Thompson is one of the most popular jockeys in Australia and he has ridden over 4000 winners during his incredible career.
Thompson has had plenty of massive days during his time as a jockey, but his biggest day ever came at Newcastle in 1990 when he was able to ride six winners.
Like Lloyd, he is still teaching his younger rivals a lesson or two and rarely misses out when he makes the trip to the city.
Mick Dittman
Mick Dittman dominated the Queensland riding ranks for many years and it was his record that Jeff Lloyd broke.
At a meeting at Eagle Farm in 1977 Dittman rode six winners, but he missed out on the opportunity to make it a perfect day when Strong James finished a very close second at $1.30.
Jim Cassidy
Ladbrokes ambassador Jimmy Cassidy won over 100 Group 1 races during his incredible career and his longevity was nothing short of incredible.
The Pumper had the best single day of his career when he rode six winners at Rosehill Gardens on the 12th of December in 1987 and he was still riding at the highest level almost 30 years later!
James McDonald
James McDonald has found himself in a spot of bother, but there is no doubt he is one of the most talented jockeys in the world.
McDonald took New Zealand racing by storm as an apprentice before he made the move to Australia at a meeting in February of 2011 he was able to boot home six winners – including Ethereal’s son Ebullient.
He was almost able to replicate that feat earlier this year when he rode five winners in a single day at Warwick Farm.
Joao Moreira
Joao Moreira is one of the most sort-after jockeys in the world for a reason.
Moreira plied his trade in Singapore before he made the move to dominate Hong Kong racing and in September of 2013 he made history by riding the winner of all eight races.
Some of these wins have to be seen to be believed and there is no doubt that Moreira carried a number of these horses over the line.
Dean Yendall
Dean Yendall claimed his first Group 1 victories when he steered Yankee Rose and I Am A Star to victory during the 2016 Spring Racing Carnival, but he has been a consistent jockey in Victoria for a number of years.
Yendall rode six winners at a meeting in Mildura in 2010 and we can only assume that the colourful hoop ‘had a raging horn’ following his last win of the day.
