Australia vs Pakistan 1st Test Match Preview

Australia vs Pakistan 1st Test Match Preview

The Australian cricket team has bounced back in recent weeks with wins over South Africa and New Zealand, but they will still head into this Test match with Pakistan under plenty of pressure.

Australia will start this Test as clear favourites, but it was not too long ago that Pakistan were the number 1 Test team in the world and they are capable of brilliance on their day.

We have analysed a wide range of betting markets for this clash and you can find our recommended bets below.

Head To Head Betting

The betting market has been quick to forgive Australia for their extremely poor performances in the first two Tests against South Africa and they are currently $1.36 favourites to start this series with a win over Pakistan.

This will be the first time that Australia and Pakistan have played in a Test match since Pakistan scored a comprehensive series victory in the United Arab Emirates and they have won the last three Tests played between the two sides.

Before that Australia had won the past 13 Tests played between the two sides and Pakistan have not won a Test in Australia since 1995.

There is every chance that could change this weekend.

Australia may have won the last Test against South Africa, but you can’t hide the fact that this is still a very fragile batting line-up and Pakistan do have a swing bowling attack that is more than capable of causing them trouble.

Pakistan were poor against New Zealand, but they are a better side than that performance suggests and they have some genuine game-breakers like Mohammaed Amir that are capable of changing a Test match with one spell of fast-bowling.

There is no way that I could possibly back Australia at their current price and Pakistan are well over the odds at their big price.

Man Of The Match

David Warner ($6) is a narrow favourite in Man of the match betting markets from Mitchell Starc ($7), Steve Smith ($7), Josh Hazlewood ($9), Usman Khawaja ($13) and Matt Renshaw ($13).

The Australians dominate this betting market and that means that there is a great deal of value if you are keen to back one of the Pakistanis.

Mohammad Amir has proven to be a very gifted bowler with the pink ball and there is no doubt that he is capable of ripping right through the Australian top order, which makes him huge value at $21.

Josh Hazlewood has proven to be the most dangerous Australian bowler with the pink ball and the extra bounce at The Gabba is perfect for his bowling style.

Top Australia 1st Innings Runscorer

David Warner ($3.75) and Steve Smith ($3.75) are currently locked in a battle for favouritism from Usman Khawaja ($5), Matt Renshaw ($6) and Peter Handscomb ($8).

It could prove fairly tough batting conditions for Australia in this Test match – especially in the first innings – and patience will be required.

They don’t get any more patient than Matt Renshaw and he has already made plenty of runs at the Gabba this season.

Back Matt Renshaw ($6) to be Australia’s Top 1st Innings Runscorer

Top Pakistan 1st Innings Runscorer

Misbah-ul-Haq ($4.50) is a narrow favourite from Azhar Ali ($5), Sami Aslam ($5.50), Younis Khan ($5.50) and Babar Azam ($5.50).

Younis Khan dominated the last series played between these two teams and at 39 years-of-age he is still capable of a very big score on his day.
