The Ashes 3rd Test Preview

The Ashes 3rd Test Preview

Australia hold a 2-0 series lead and they can secure the Ashes Urn with a win over England in the Third Test Match in Perth.

There have been some nervous moments for Australia in both Test Matches, but they have been the better side when it has mattered and they will start the Third Test as a dominant favourite.

Will Australia win the Third Test and secure the Urn or will England get themselves into the hunt? We have analysed both sides and our Ashes 3rd Test tips can be found below.

Head To Head Betting

Australia are $1.53 to win the Third Ashes Test, while England are available at a juicy $4.50 to get themselves back into the Series.

This Australian side still has their issues, but they have done enough to take a 2-0 lead and the scary thing for England is that there is still improvement to be found.

The top order continues to be prone to collapse and they have been saved by both Steve Smith and Shaun Marsh – with the collapse in the second innings at the Adelaide Oval particularly concerning.

In saying that, the night conditions that so favoured England in that session in Adelaide will not be in play in Perth and it would not surprise to see an improved effort from the Australian batsman.

Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have all struggled at points during this series, but they have all come up with big wickets when it has mattered and Nathan Lyon has been nothing short of outstanding.

This is clearly the area where Australia have a clear edge over England and the English batsman – outside of Joe Root and at times James Vince – have had no answers for the Australian bowling attack.

Stuart Broad and James Anderson have looked dangerous at times – particularly with the new ball – but they can struggle to be effective with an older ball and Moeen Ali has offered very little with the ball.

Australia’s recent record at the WACA is not particularly good – they have won only one of their past four Tests at the venue – but if you exclude South Africa they have won four of their past five Tests at the WACA.

England in particular have struggled at the WACA – they have not won at the venue since 1978 and they even failed to win there when they won the Ashes in dominant fashion back in 2010.

It is impossible to bet against Australia in this clash and they should be able to secure a series win.

Top Australia 1st Innings Runscorer

Steve Smith ($3.25) is currently a clear favourite in this betting market from David Warner ($3.75), Usman Khawaja ($5.50), Shaun Marsh ($7) and Cameron Bancroft ($8).

The WACA is a venue where Warner has thrived in recent years and he is primed to return to his best form in this Test Match.

Warner averages almost 90 at the WACA and he has three Test Match centuries at the venue – the ball won’t be doing a great deal early and this where Warner is able to dominate.

Top England 1st Innings Runscorer

Joe Root ($4) is a clear favourite in our Top England 1st Innings Runscorer betting market from Alastair Cook ($4.50), Jonny Bairstow ($6) and Mark Stoneman ($6).

There is no doubt that Root is far and away the best batsmen in this England outfit and the $4 that is currently available is well and truly over the odds.

He is the only batsmen that has any long-term answers for the Australian bowling attack and there is no better betting play in this Test Match.

Man Of The Match

Mitchell Starc ($6) is currently a narrow in Man Of The Match betting markets from David Warner ($7), Steve Smith ($7), Josh Hazlewood ($8) and Nathan Lyon ($8).

Starc is a clear favourite for a reason.

He has been the pick of the Australian bowlers in Perth for the past three summers and there are few bowlers in world cricket that are as destructive as a firing Starc.

Batsmen have won the Man Of The Match Awards in both Tests this series – Steve Smith in Brisbane and Shaun Marsh in Adelaide – and it could be Warner’s turn to cash-in in Perth.
