For those of us in Australia, watching the Super Bowl on TV can be a bit of a letdown. It’s got nothing to do with the sport, spectacle or the event itself, it’s got to do with the ads.
With a 30-second spot for a commercial during the Super Bowl costing $5million in the US, the advertisers go above and beyond to ensure they get the most out of their spot. There are plenty of viewers in America who will watch the Super Bowl for the commercials.
Meanwhile, Australian viewers are subjected to daytime TV ads for life insurance, local car dealerships, Superannuation, Subway and the same ad for the ESPN app over and over during the local broadcast.
Thanks to our good friends at YouTube we’ve been able to come up with a list of some of the Sensational Superbowl Ads from this years match directly from the US of A.
TIDE
A Washing Powder from the US has managed to combine every single Super Bowl ad ever made into one easy to understand commercial. Various versions of the Tide ads continued throughout the Super Bowl broadcast in the US including one where the Old Spice man makes an appearance. That’s just so 2010!
AUSTRALIAN TOURISM
Some local, fair dinkum Aussie pride for the Super Bowl commercials in 2018, the much anticipated Danny McBride and Chris Hemsworth ad for the fake Crocodile Dundee movie. (We think it should actually be made)
MOUNTAIN DEW/DORITOS
Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones along with the legendary Morgan Freeman pair up for the combo of Doritos Blaze and Mountain Dew Ice. Solid.
AVOCADOS FROM MEXICO
While smashed avo is known to have a serious effect on Millennials chances of owning a home in Australia, the Mexican Avocado people have no trouble affording an ad during the Super Bowl.
JEEP
Jeff Goldblum re-lives his Jurassic Park days at a Jeep dealer. We thought he only promoted Menulog!
AMAZON ALEXA
Amazon’s digital personal assistant Alexa (available in Australia soon we’re told) loses her voice with various celebrities filling in. Aussie Rebel Wilson makes an appearance.
E TRADE
E-Trade encourages older Americans to explore investments or face the prospect of working at the age of 85.
GROUPON
The ball. The Groin. It works on so many levels.
M&M’s
The red M&M wishes it were human and turns into Danny DeVito or given that the Eagles won today, Frank Reynolds from “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia”.
HYUNDAI
The referee of the kid’s Soccer game saves the day for parents who would rather be watching the Super Bowl. An absolute hero if this were in real life.
FEBREZE
An air freshener ad which pretty much explains why on earth you would buy air freshener.
These are only just some of the sensational ads that aired during the Super Bowl in the US. A simple search on YouTube of Super Bowl ads past and present is always worth your time.
