Golden Slipper Day is always a memorable one for racing fans, but it was particularly big for one of our punters who was able to turn $21.13 into $10,738.26!
This Group 1 racing multi got underway on Friday Night at The Valley as our punter locked in $7 for Hellbent to record a maiden Group 1 victory in the William Reid Stakes.
Hellbent has always had an electric turn-of-foot on his day and he showed that in spades in the William Reid Stakes as he ran down a gallant Thronum in the concluding stages.
Our punter then turned his attention to Rosehill Gardens for Golden Slipper Day and there would have been few racing multis on Saturday that did feature the great mare Winx.
Happy Clapper and Kementari both gave her a race in the George Ryder Stakes, but she never really looked like losing and she was able to record her 24th straight victory.
The Rosehill Guineas was the next Group 1 event at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday and our punter was able to lock in a juicy $5.50 for D’argento before he was heavily backed into $3.50.
D’argento was taken to the outside of the Rosehill straight by jockey Hugh Bowman and he stormed home in the final stages to claim a maiden Group 1 victory and move our punter to within one leg of a massive multi win.
Estijaab was another horse well-backed on Saturday, but our punter was able to lock in $12 for her to win the Golden Slipper and this leg added a massive amount of value to his multi.
Brenton Avdulla took Estijaab straight to the lead in the early stages of the Golden Slipper and that proved to be a winning move as her rivals were simply unable to run her down.
It was a massive day for Team Hawkes and Brenton Avdulla, but our punter would have celebrated Estijaab’s Golden Slipper win just as hard as it helped him turn $21.13 into $10,738.26!
