Legendary Lands – $100 into $9075.75

One Ladbrokes punter enjoyed a highly successful weekend landing an eight-leg multi turning their $100 outlay into a $9075 return. There were plenty of nervous moments over the three days the bet was in play featuring some close results among the seven AFL legs and one NRL leg that would have had the heart rate rising.

It started off with Friday night’s clash between Essendon and St Kilda with the Bombers trying to keep their finals hopes alive against a Saints side that had lost three on the trot. It was a tight first half with the Saints leading late in the second quarter before Essendon took control during the third quarter and pulled away for what turned into a comfortable 43-point win.

Saturday featured four more AFL legs with every game in play except for the GWS-Adelaide contest. Up first was Hawthorn putting a dent in Geelong’s finals hopes with an 11 point victory that featured a Geelong rally in the fourth quarter, reducing the margin from 26 down to 6 before the Hawks put the game to bed. At the same time was perhaps the safest bet of the multi with Richmond backed to beat the Gold Coast head to head. Richmond scored first and cruised to victory at Metricon Stadium with our punter presumably happy they just took care of business.

West Coast (and this Legendary Land) were by all accounts dead to rights against Port Adelaide before a fourth quarter revival. Port were restricted to just two behinds after three quarter time while West Coast roared back scoring 3.3 in the final term, including Jeremy McGovern’s post-siren game-winner. During the match West Coast got out to a remarkable $26 during the game but managed to reward out punters faith with a win here.

After that heart-stopper there would have been a few nerves in the Saturday night fixture between Brisbane and Collingwood as the Lions were throughout most of the first half with our punter backing the Magpies. Collingwood snatched the lead right before the half and after it briefly swung back to Brisbane early in the third quarter, it was all black and white from there as they went on to record a 31-point victory.

With three legs still to play, the action turned to the early Sunday kick off in the NRL with Canberra hosting Wests. It was all easy going early with a 16-0 lead and by halftime, the Tigers were up 20-10. After they extended their lead with what turned out to be a crucial penalty goal for the first points of the second half, Ivan Cleary’s side gave up a try to Joseph Leilua on the hour mark and four minutes later to Joseph Tapine to bring it back to 22-20. Canberra came close to completing the comeback, but it was not to be as Wests held on to make this multi 6/6 heading into the final two AFL legs.

Sydney produced an efficient kicking display to topple Melbourne at the MCG in a game dominated by another injury to Alex Johnson. The Swans kicked 13.9 to the Demons 10.18 and were able to keep them at arm’s length from the second quarter onwards. For with so many close contests and nervous finishes, it was only fitting that there were some nervous moments in the final leg between Fremantle and Carlton. The Blues held a narrow advantage through the first half and were up by 13 at the big break but a seven-goal third term from the home side got them home in the end.

That also capped our Legendary Land with our punter hitting all eight legs and pulling in a nice return of $9075.75 from their $100 bet.
