Maid Marilyn has raced well without winning during this preparation and she should now be at peak fitness third-up. Winona Costin will be able to take her straight to the front in the early stages of this contest and there will not be a great deal of talent behind her. This is her opportunity to return to winning form.
The Bald Eagle showed some promise at the end of his most recent campaign and his two barrier trials ahead of his return to the races have been full of merit. He maps to get a lovely run right on the speed and this is a fairly open race. The $9 that is currently available is well and truly over the odds.
Sophie’s Revenge has been sent to the Darren Weir stable after starting her career in Perth under the care of Trevor Andrews. She showed plenty of ability as a younger horse and we have seen time and time again just how much improvement Weir can get out of tried horses – especially those from Perth.
Truly High was finally able to return to winning form at The Valley last start and he relished the step-up in trip to 3000 metres. The 4600 metres of the Jericho Cup is another question entirely, but he is a grinding stayer that never stops trying. Darren Weir is the master and it really would not surprise if he was able to win another Cup in 2018.
