It has been a long time between race starts for Rakovsky and he will definitely benefit from this run, but there is no doubt that he does have serious talent. He won his second race start at Sale by a dominant eight lengths and he hasn’t produced a poor performance at the races. I am willing to take a gamble that he will produce close to his best form at the current odds of $6.50.
Ginger Jones was lucky to stay on his feet at Cranbourne last start and the way that he savaged the line after having such a tough passage suggests that he does have some talent. The wide barrier draw isn’t ideal and he will definitely need some luck in running, but he does have upside and he deserves to start this contest as favourite.
Amerock does not win out of turn, but he has generally produced his best form at Ballarat and he showed good toughness to win over this track and distance last start. He maps to get a lovely run in transit with Jarrod Fry in the saddle and a repeat of that last start effort would make him very tough to beat.
Brutal Power returned to the races with a classy win at Bendigo and there is no doubt that he still has the scope to improve on that performance. He has drawn a wide barrier, but he does have early speed and Dwayne Dunn should be able to settle him in a forward position. He has far more upside than the rest of this field and I expect him to make it two wins on the trot.
