PUNTER’S PAL

After successive weeks where they well and truly got the better of the bookies, round 11 was, in effect, a punter’s apocalypse.

Brisbane was a well-supported narrow outsider whilst the two favourites who did win at the weekend, Melbourne and South Sydney, were very well backed despite the skinny odds.

Aside from those small wins, week 11 was one punters will want to quickly forget.

BOOKIE’S BEST

The Panthers snapping a six-match losing streak kicked started what was the bookmaker’s best weekend of the season.

Friday night had the traders dancing at their desks when the Titans and Knights won against the odds, before the Cowboys made it four from four for the outsiders.

FIRST TRY FILL-UP

While head to head and line betting was a wipe out, punters did get the better of first try betting.

Five of the eight players to cross first in round 11 were the best or second best backed in their respective matches.

They were, Maiko Sivo (Eels, $8), Jorge Taufua (Sea Eagles, $8), Cameron Murray (Rabbitohs, $21), Josh Addo-Carr (Storm, $6) and Bronson Xerri (Sharks, $12).

MULTI MAGIC

The round didn’t prove that tough for one Ladbrokes punter who was smart enough to combine Brisbane Broncos -3.5 / South Sydney Rabbitohs 13+ / Melbourne Storm 13+ / Cronulla Sharks -3.5 at $29.84.

His $500 wager returning a shade under $15,000.

BACKING THE FUTURE

It’s all about the Knights in future’s betting.

Mitchell Pearce’s fifth consecutive Man Of The Match performance took him to the top of voting an into a $4 favourite for the award, ahead of Storm playmaker Cameron Munster at $5.

Newcastle also continued to firm for the premiership after a fifth consecutive win, the latest of which was over the premiers.
