It might sound like an additional verse to Old MacDonald, but the two leading candidates to land the now vacant Kangaroos coaching job are men known colloquially as ‘Ratts’ and ‘Horse’

Ladbrokes today installed former Carlton coach, Brett Ratten and current Sydney Swans mentor, John Longmire as equal $6 favourites to be calling the shots at Arden Street come 2020.

“They need a brand name and a former champion like Longmire, who has built his reputation at one of the great clubs of the modern era is certainly that,” Ladbrokes spokesman Roger Oldridge said.

“Ratten probably didn’t have a lot of currency when he finished up at Carlton but his record now doesn’t look so bad.

“Plus he was at the right hand of Clarkson in the Hawks threepeat and is getting rave reviews at St Kilda.”

Former Lions coach and now Port Adelaide assistant Michael Voss sits just behind Ratten and Longmire in the Ladbrokes market at $6.50 alongside Power premiership player, Adam Kingsley, who is currently an assistant coach at Richmond continuing his more than decade long apprenticeship.

Rhyce Shaw was named North Melbourne’s interim coach for the remainder of 2019 and is considered a $10 chance to land the permanent gig, whilst WA based AFL coaches, Ross Lyon and Adam Simpson are at $15.

Dual Geelong premiership coach Mark Thompson is $41 in the market but his availability for the position will depend on Victoria’s legal system.
