PUNTER’S PAL

The best results for punters bookended the weekend as the two premiership favourites yet again flexed their muscles.

Geelong was well found to take advantage of an undermanned Richmond team on Friday night, whilst Collingwood was seen as a certainty against Melbourne as punters looked to make bank on Queen’s Birthday Monday.

BOOKIE’S BEST

The home ground advantage is very much alive and well as Sydney and Adelaide proved in getting a couple back for the bookies against more fancied opposition.

A fit and firing Lance Franklin makes any team he plays for a tough matchup, whilst the Eagles troubles away from home must surely see questions begin to be asked of the reigning premiers.

FIRST GOAL FILL-UP

It was a genuine first goal fill-up for punters in round 12 as the best-backed player in five of the six matched nailed the opener.

The average price of those five – Dustin Martin, Eric Hipwood, Josh Jenkins, Lance Franklin and Jaidyn Stephenson – was $10. Not huge odds, but for the masses who found them, there was no complaining.

The best backed of the lot was Collingwood’s Stephenson who is starting to gain very high recognition among first goal bettors.

MULTI MAGIC

Sure, tipping the round in a six-match weekend is statistically easier than normal but, given a couple of upsets, credit must go to the Ladbrokes punters who had the first five winners into Collingwood 40+. The only margin bet in his multi.

A late charge from the Demons would have made for nervous moments but ultimately his bet saluted and his $20 wager returned a very nice $2262.21

BACKING THE FUTURE

Geelong and Collingwood remain clear top picks in the premiership market as the Tigers eased to their biggest price since round three. GWS remain steady despite their loss but moves are afoot in the most losses market.

Bookmakers are clearly expected David Teague to continue to have an influence on the young Blues as they drifted significantly while the Suns had their price slashed.
