One Ladbrokes punter has put their bonus bet to phenomenal use, spending $50 on a five leg, AFL multi over the weekend that netted a phenomenal return of almost $23000.
We’ve all thrown a bonus bet on a long shot multi figuring “what’s the worst thing that can happen” but not only did this punter nail all five winners, but also backed the correct margin in every game.
It started on Friday night with the Bombers and Hawks facing off at Marvel Stadium and it was a very tight contest for the first half before Essendon kicked away to build a huge lead midway through the fourth quarter.
No harm, no foul and probably no second thoughts if this multi fell at the first hurdle, but Hawthorn kicked their way back into it with 20 of the last 21 points of the game to make the final margin 19 points.
Up next was a trip to Townsville where our punter backed the Saints to beat Gold Coast by 1-24 points.
It probably was a lot closer than… well pretty much everyone expected but the Saints held on to win by four to get this second leg over the line.
There was another close call at the other end of the 1-24 margin at Optus Stadium as Fremantle very nearly kicked away by too many in the fourth quarter.
A scoreless effort from Port in the final term cost them the lead as Freo put on the all 22 final quarter points and there would have been some sweaty palms in the closing seconds.
Leg number four took place back at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night as the Bulldogs survived a back and forth encounter with Carlton, who put up a surprising amount of fight.
It was all Bulldogs early before Carlton took the lead in the third quarter, only for the Blues to fall away again before getting within three with four minutes remaining.
That would be it for the scoring though as a much more exciting than expected game to send this long shot Legendary Lands down to the final leg.
On a cool day at Blundstone Arena, our punter abandoned their regular strategy of backing teams by 1-19/24 and instead backed a slightly bigger win for the Giants, by 20-39 points.
It was a very even first half with scores level going into the break but the third quarter was the decisive one as the Giants kicked clear and wound up cruising to a comfortable 23 point win.
That would seal one of the best Legendary Lands of the AFL season with a long shot bonus bet coming off in the best possible way.
