They say we should use this time to learn something new – so we thought we’d offer up a history lesson free of charge!
We’re going to be recapping all the important sporting moments each and every day as we look to fill the void our beloved sports and teams have left behind.
So if it’s AFL, NRL, Basketball, Cricket, Golf or even Wrestling, be sure to return each and every morning as we take a trip back through the history books to relive some of sports’ greatest moments.
1939 – Baseball’s Most Historic Record
The ‘Iron Horse’ Lou Gehrig etched his name even further in the history books on this day in 1939 by playing his 2,130th consecutive game for the New York Yankees.
Gehrig’s consecutive game streak would remain intact for the next six decades before a man name Cal Ripken Jr came onto the scene in the mid-’90s. Ripken broke Gehrig’s streak in on September 6, 1995, in front of a sold-out crowd at Camden Yards, but made sure to pay special tribute to the man that inspired him in his celebration speech.
