On This Day in Sports May 26th

On This Day: June 13

They say we should use this time to learn something new – so we thought we’d offer up a history lesson free of charge!

We’re going to be recapping all the important sporting moments each and every day as we look to fill the void our beloved sports have left behind.

So if it’s AFL, NRL, Basketball, Cricket, Golf or even Wrestling, be sure to return each morning as we take a trip back through the history books to relive some of the great sporting moments On This Day.

2012 – A Perfect Cain

Perfect games don’t come much better than Matt Cain’s 10-0 shutout defeat over the Houston Astros on this day in 2012.

The San Francisco Giants righty struck out a career high 14 batters on 125 pitches, tying the legendary Sandy Koufax for the most strikeouts thrown in a perfect game.

It also marked the first perfect game thrown in Giants history, which was enough to earn Cain a key to the city from San Francisco mayor Ed Lee.

2019 – Rise of The North

This time last year we were all celebrating a) the Raptors winning their first title, and b) the end of the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty.

Leading the series 3-2 heading into Game 6, the Raptors handed a Kevin Durant-less Warriors team a 114-110 defeat in the final game at Oracle Arena.

Kawhi Leonard was named Finals MVP, while Drake and the entire city of Toronto finally had something to smile about.
