On This Day: June 25

They say we should use this time to learn something new – so we thought we’d offer up a history lesson free of charge!

We’re going to be recapping all the important sporting moments each and every day as we look to fill the void our beloved sports have left behind.

So if it’s AFL, NRL, Basketball, Cricket, Golf or even Wrestling, be sure to return each morning as we take a trip back through the history books to relive some of the great sporting moments On This Day.

2003 – Blues in a Blowout

Following their series draw a year earlier, New South Wales reclaimed the State of Origin shield on this day in 2003 with a blowout 27-4 victory over Queensland in Game 3.

Andrew Johns and his fellow Newcastle teammates put on a show scoring four of New South Wales’ five tries.

Johns was named Man of the Match, while the Blues went on to claim a three-peat over the following two years.

2014 – A Bite Size Piece

Luis Suarez created worldwide headlines on this day in 2014 when he took a bite out of Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

Let the record show, this wasn’t the first time Suarez got a might bit peckish on the field, either.
