2019 – Blues Boilover
Carlton fans will remember this time last year fondly when veteran Blue Marc Murphy booted the match-winning goal with just 35 seconds remaining to get his team home by four points over Fremantle at Optus Stadium.
The Blues were without either Patrick Cripps or Harry McKay and the Teague Train was only gathering a tiny little bit of steam.
Freo looked to have the game done and dusted after Michael Walters kicked a goal with six minutes remaining putting the Dockers 15 points ahead.
In one of the most dramatic finishes of last season, Carlton booted three goals in as many minutes to snatch the lead.
But that wasn’t the only drama.
With 70 seconds remaining, Freo’s Sam Switkoswki appeared to kick the winning goal but there was a twist.
The Blues sent the ball forward, Levi Casboult somehow managed to fire off a handball after being mobbed by the Dockers defense and the ball somehow ended up in the ends of Marc Murphy.
Murphy unleashed a banana kick from the 20 meters out to steal a famous four point win for Carlton.
2002 – Brazil Wins World Cup
The final of the 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup is now a legal adult as it was held 18 years ago today.
Ronaldo and that infamous haircut scored twice as Brazil beat Germany 2-0 winning their record 5th title.
1993 – Mal Meninga Masterclass
Playing for the Kangaroos, Mal Meniga helped Australia retain their world champion crown with a solid 16-4 third Test win over New Zealand at the old Lang Park.
This would also be the last time Bob Lindner played his last Test for Australia.
