1991: Two New Faces
Major League Baseball officially announced the addition of the Colorado Rockies and the Florida Marlins to the league on this day in 1991.
The two teams were scheduled to enter the league in 1993, but so far only the Marlins have seen any real success having won the World Series in 1997 and 2003.
2008: Sisters Are Doing it For Themselves
Venus and Serena Williams met at Wimbledon on this day in 2008 in what turned out to be one of the most famous women single’s finals in tournament history.
After defeating Marion Bartoli in 2007, Venus successfully defender her crown with a straight sets victory over her younger sister.
Serena sought revenge the very next year, winning in straight sets herself for her third Wimbledon crown.
