2004 – Thurston Heads North
One of the greatest signings in NRL history went down on this day in 2004 when Johnathan Thurston signed a three-year pact with the North Queensland Cowboys.
After playing 29 games at Canterbury, Thurston went on to enjoy a stylish 13 years with the Cowboys, winning the Dally M on four separate occasions and a premiership in 2015.
2008 – Roger’s Time Runs Out
The Rafa v Roger rivalry hit its peaks on this day in 2008 when Nadal snapped Federer’s five-year title reign at Wimbledon.
In what many consider to be one of the greatest finals, if not matches, in tennis history, Nadal defeated Federer in a thrilling five sets to win his first title at the All England Club.
If you stayed up to watch the entire five-hour extravaganza, you probably remember it fondly.
2019 – Little Brother Goes Big
This time last year the NBA world was sent into a frenzy following Woj’s announcement that free agent Kawhi Leonard was set to join the Los Angeles Clippers only months after winning the title with the Raptors.
After the initial shock subsided, another Woj bomb dropped detailing a trade between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Clippers – one that would send Paul George to Los Angeles in exchange for a handful of players and draft picks.
This was easily the wildest free agency period in the NBA, if not sports in general, and will be remembered for years to come!
