2019 – Pies Pip Eagles

There’s never a dull moment when West Coast meets Collingwood and their most recent encounter in Round 17 of last season was a beauty.

In a match between the two AFL Grand Finalists from 2018, Collingwood managed to get over the Eagles with a nailbiting one point win.

The Pies lost Darcy Moore with a hamstring injury in the first quarter, and found themselves trailing by 18 points at the 10 minute mark of the third term.

From that point on, Collingwood turned the game on its head and was able to keep West Coast scoreless for 43 minutes.

Goals from Jordan De Goey and Brody Nihocek in the last quarter got the Pies to within a point followed by a string of behinds gave them the lead.

In yet another Eagles-Magpies dramatic finish, Jack Darling had the chance to put West Coast back infront with two minutes to go but his set shot from the boundary line was rushed through for a behind.

When the final siren sounded, Collingwood won the game by a point.

1979 – Disco Inferno

Special themed nights at sporting events is nothing new.

From Superhero night, special charity matches, Dreamtime games in normal times sporting clubs have always looked at making the matchday experience more than just watching the game.

This special themed night between the Chicago White Sox and the Detriot Tigers takes the cake.

July 12, 1979 was officially “Disco Demolition Night” in Chicago.

With disco music becoming all the rage on the radio and in nightclubs, the more hardened rock’n roll Baseball fans were encouraged to arrive to Comiskey Park with their disco records and the aim was to burn them.

Organisers thought they’d get a small crowd when it turned out to be the hottest ticket in town.

When the time came to burn baby burn, fans stormed onto the field damaging the arena to the point that the White Sox had to forfeit the match to Detroit.
