2016 – Bolting into History
Usain Bolt made sporting and Olympic history, capturing his third consecutive 100 meters gold confirming his place as one of the greatest atheletes the world has ever seen.
Competing in his final Olympics, Bolt powered over the line in 9.81 seconds ahead of his drug-tainted rival Justin Gatlin from the USA taking silver with Canada’s Andre de Grasse winning Bronze.
Gatlan was booed by the crowd in Rio when he was introduced.
Bolt strutted around the stadium after a sensational win, basking in the glory of his achievement and taking selfies with fans during his lap of honour.
Of course, his famous “lighting bolt” pose was on show for all to see.
Bolt told Channel 7 after the race:
“I wanted to run a faster time. The turn-around time was so quick. It didn’t give us a chance to relax. I was confident coming out.”
“Definitely it’s one of my finest wins and the third one. I’m happy with the execution,” he said.
No other athlete – man or woman – had won three consecitvie individual Olympic sprint titles – except for Usain Bolt.
1948 – The Don Out For a Duck
Sir Donald Bradman made his way out to the crease for his final innings in the Baggy Green to huge cheers from the Enlgish Crowd.
Two balls later, he would be bowled out for a duck.
Don Bradman would be bowled out in the second ball by England’s Eric Hollies with the Don and the crowd in shock as he made an early return to the pavilion at The Oval.
Bradman’s Duck, arguably the most infamous dismissal in Cricket resulted in Bradman finishing his legendary career with 6,996 runs, and the famous average of 99.94.
The Cricket gods weren’t completley cruel to the Australians as England lost the Test match by an innings.
