1994 – Bradley’s Banana

A crowd of 28,038 (and another 400,000 who will tell you they were there) packed out the then known Optus Oval (Princes Park) to witness Carlton’s Craig Bradley kick one of the most brilliant goals you’ll ever see.

The top of the ladder West Coast Eagles faced second placed Carlton in a game many thought would be the preview of the 1994 AFL Grand Final.

It was a famous 64 point win for Carlton but what was most memorable was Bradley’s goal.

Somehow Bradley had managed to thwart Eagle Peter Matera down the wing, followed it up to pass Guy McKenna, handballed it Andrew McKay, who gave it back to Bradle,y y, bounced and from just inside the 50 kicked a banana with Glenn Jackvoich chasing from behind.

Carlton fans are still calling for a Royal Commission as to why it didn’t win the Goal of the Year Award for 1994.

1986 – Beefed Up

Reinstated to the English Cricket Team after admitting to use of marijuana, legendary England all-rounder Ian Bootham broke the world record for Test wickets in the drawn Test against New Zealand at The Oval.

Botham equalled the record (355) taking a wicket with his first ball having Bruce Edgar caught by Graham Gooch.

Legend has it that Gooch uttered the words “who writes your scripts” after his catch.

He then proceeded to break the record taking his 356th wicket – Jeff Crowd LBW.

Beefy was back in town.
