Legendary Lands – $250 Into $10,250.00
Collingwood’s one-point win over the West Coast Eagles in Saturday night’s Elimination Final was one of the all-time great finals wins, and it was also one of the all-time great Ladbrokes legendary lands.
Everybody was quick to write the Pies off.
Kane Cornes said that Collingwood was just making up the numbers, the West Australian newspaper referred to them as the “Dirty Pies” and the West Coast Eagles were heavily backed to win on their home deck.
However, this Ladbrokes punter just had a hunch that Collingwood could pull off a major upset by backing the Magpies to win by one solidarity point.
Not only did this Ladbrokes punter back the Pies to win by a point @ $41, but the wager was also actually their very first bet with a Ladbrokes account – talk about backing yourself!
Perhaps this punter had a feeling that it was going to be yet another Eagles-Pies finals classic, perhaps he was nostradamus, maybe it was gut-feel and we have no evidence that he owns a copy of Grays Sports Almanac.
It was truly a phenomenal performance by Collingwood on Saturday night.
Mason Cox produced a 2018 preliminary final-esque performance by kicking three goals in as many minutes early in the first quarter.
If you thought Nathan Buckley was stressed out in the Collingwood coaching box, spare a thought for this Ladbrokes punter!
West Coast snatched back the lead in a see-sawing final quarter as Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling closed the gap to one point with just under a minute to go on the clock.
Perhaps this Ladbrokes punter would like to shout Brody Mihocek a beer one day given his two late goals and that all-important defensive mark to get the Magpies over the line by a solidarity point.
At the final siren, there were jubilant scenes amongst the Collingwood players and their WA based fans who were lucky to be at Optus Stadium resulting in one of the all-time great renditions of “Good old Collingwood Forever”.
There’s no doubting that this lucky Ladbrokes punter was signing it with gusto with the Magpie faithful after an amazing win all round.
