2018 – WINX IS GOAT
The win was best summed up by the Resident Rainman Tom Hackett in our “Greatest Cox Plates” blog:
“The Queen of the Turf set a record that will never be broken in our greatest race.
Four Cox Plates in a row. I witnessed it and lived the story yet I still can not believe it.
What a superstar she was.”
2004 – Curse Lifted
The infamous “Curse of the Bambino” on the Boston Red Sox was lifted when they beat the St Louis Cardinals to complete a 4-0 sweep of the World Series.
The curse dated back to 1920 when Babe Ruth was traded from Boston to the New York Yankees, resulting in years of torment and heartbreak.
Red Sox starter Derek Lowe pitched 7 scoreless innings, setting up the Red Sox triumph with pandemonium in the stadium and streets of Boston.
Plenty of Red Sox fans made the trek to St Louis to see the curse end in style and Cardinals season ticket holders were giving up their seats to Game 4 knowing what was about to happen.
