2004 – Nine Goal North London Derby
Arsenal would beat their North London rival Tottenham Hotspur 5-4 at White Hart Lane which at the time was the highest aggergate number of goals scored in an EPL match.
There were nine indivdual goal kickers for the match in what was a toppsy-turvy affair and one of the all-time great Derbies between the two London clubs.
1982 – Alderman’s Tackle
When a drunken English fan ran onto the arena at the WACA during the first Test against England, Australian fast bowler Terry Alderman dislocated his shoulder when he tried to tackle one of the pitch invaders.
The shoulder injury Alderman suffered as a result of the tackle cost him a year of his Cricket career.
“I have played a bit of Aussie Rules and I know what a gentle tap is and what a thump to the head is, and that was a thump to the back of the head,” Alderman told ESPN CricInfo
“With that, he ran off, and I could see that there were no police in the vicinity so I attempted to apprehend him.”
Dennis Lillee and Allan Border also played a hand in trying to fend off the drunken specators that invaded the pitch and play was delayed with fights breaking out in the WACA crowd.
In the aftermath, the ACB ruled that players couldn’t tackle specators – despite objections from the players themselves.
Venues also took action with the MCG banning alcohol from home being brought into the ground for the upcoming Test match and the SCG considering putting up barbed-wire fencing outside the boundary.
