So if it’s AFL, NRL, Basketball, Cricket, Golf or even Wrestling, be sure to return each morning as we take a trip back through the history books to relive some of the great and important sporting moments in This Day In Sport!
2012 – Punter’s Final Innings
In his 168th and final Test, the international career of Ricky Ponting ended when he was out for just 8 runs.
Ponting would be caught at first slip before lunch on the fourth day of the third Test against the South Africans at the WACA.
A soft dismissal wasn’t the ideal way for the man who would be Australia’s greaetest run-scorer and former captain to leave the game.
Ponting would finish with 13,378 Test runs at an average of 51.85
1956 – Aussie Gold!
The Australian 4x200m freestyle relay team of Kevin O’Halloran, John Devitt, Murray Rose and Jon Henricks took out gold at the Melbourne Olympics beating the pre-race favourites the USA by almost 8 seconds at 8:23.6
This would complete a clean sweep for Australia at the games – male, female, indivual and relay.
It would also be Murray Rose’s 2nd of 3 gold medals at the Melbourne Olympics.
