Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate
Luke Nolan and Peter Moody have combined to win the first race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.
Two year old colt Brereton narrowly defeated the Godolphin colt Renosu as the two kicked clear of the field down the famous Flemington straight.
Moody saddles up the Melbourne Cup favourite Incentivise later in the day.

The Macca's Run (2800m)
The Matthew Cumani trained Team Captain has won the second race of the afternoon, outstaying his rivals over 2800m.
It is the third win in a row for the son of Galileo and he went over the line three lengths clear of his rivals.
This will be a nice little boost to the Cumani stable who were forced to scratch their Melbourne Cup runner Future Score on Cup morning.

Subzero Handicap (1400m)
The all grey race was moved from Oaks Day to Melbourne Cup day for the first time and it was five year old gelding Excelman who saluted in the race.
It was a good training effort by Richard Laming to produce the horse first up from a spell to win and a great ride by Blaike McDougall who pilots Carif in the Melbourne Cup later in the day.

Listed Furphy Plate (1800m)
Milton Park has led all the way to win the Listed Furphy Plate in the fourth event of the day at Flemington.
Skyman was closing late to just miss and Charleise was about the only horse to make up ground in the straight to close out the placings.

Grinders Coffee Roasters Trophy (1400m)
James Cummings and Godolphin have won their first race on Melbourne Cup Day as Lackeen salutes in the Grinders Coffee Roasters Trophy.
That is the second win from 11 career race starts for the lightly raced five year old gelding and he has now placed in seven of those starts.
It was the first winner for in form champion hoop Damien Oliver this afternoon and he rides the well supported Delphi in the Cup.

The Lightning Stakes and Oakleigh Plate look ‘beautiful stallion making races’ for Profiteer in the autumn accordingly to trainer Mick Price after the talented colt took out The Schweppervescence Plate on Melbourne Cup Day.
The son of Capitalist handled the straight course at Flemington with aplomb when leading from start to finish as the short priced favourite.

Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m)
Verry Elleegant has caused an upset in the 2021 Melbourne Cup winning her 10th Group 1 in a dominant display at Flemington.
She backed up her third in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate at The Valley by taking out the race that stops the nation, giving James McDonald and Chris Waller their first win in the Melbourne Cup.
There is simply no denying her champion status now.
Incentivise was excellent in second place having settled in the top two going around the first turn, he battled on well right through the line.

Group 3 The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (1400m)
Rich Hips has hugged the rails down the long Flemington straight and scored in the Group 3 The Hong Hong Jockey Club Stakes.
The five year old mare has now won seven times from 22 career race starts giving Nash Rawiller his first win on 2021 Melbourne Cup Day.
