An early boil-over on Cup Day with Krakarib taking out the Maribyrnong Plate at 28-1.
The Ribchester colt was beaten four lengths on debut, but a change in tactics under Damien Thornton proved the difference with the pair rolling forward and leading all the way.

Zulfiqar was well-backed as the favourite but just lacked the dash in the finish. There was plenty of late money for Awestruck, who found the line well for third, while Little Brose also ran into second paying $2.70 the place.
- 1st: Krakrabib ($26)
- 2nd: Little Brose ($2.70)
- 3rd: Awestruck ($2.05)
Easy watch for punter’s that backed the favourite White Marlin in The Macca’s Run.
The Waterhouse and Bott five-year-old extended his unbeaten streak to five in a row thanks to an impressive ride from Tim Clark.
The pair found themselves with everything in front of them rounding the turn, unleashing a powerful turn of foot to draw clear and win by five lengths.
The son of Mastercraftsman clearly has bigger races in his future and there’s no question he’ll see out further.

- 1st: White Marlin ($2.35)
- 2nd: Protection Money ($13)
- 3rd: Caboche ($2.50)
Toppy Love Tap has taken out the Subzero thanks to a well-timed ride from Blake Shinn.
The Freedman-trained five-year-old was first-up coming off a couple of impressive trials in Sydney and appeared to relish a bit of sting out of the track.

Struck By led for most of the way and held on nicely for third, while Kooled prevailed in a photo for second.
- 1st: Love Tap ($12)
- 2nd: Kooled ($3.20)
- 3rd: Struck By: ($2.15)
High Approach stuck on well to win a ding-dong battle over Lindermann to the line.
Archie Alexander’s three-year-old was coming off a maiden win on the synthetic at Ballarat last start and was tough right through to record a grinding win.

Lindermann was beaten a short head, while there was no luck for the short-priced favourite Quang Tri – weakening badly along the fence to run last.
- 1st: High Approach ($19)
- 2nd: Lindermann ($4.00)
- 3rd: Dream Hour ($4.00)
The rough results continued in the Schweppervescence with Renosu bursting clear along the outside running rail to get up and win by a length.
Blake Shinn made it a double aboard the three-year-old, beating home Godolphin stablemate Kin, who let down well along the inside part of the track.
Renosu was a dominant winner of his maiden at Hawkesbury earlier in August but was too far back to strike at Caulfield finishing second last.
- 1st: Renosu ($31)
- 2nd: Kin ($8.00)
- 3rd: Boldinho ($3.40)
Proven wet-tracker Bartholomieu Dias has taken out the Furphy Plate in a thrilling battle to the line.
The old boy out of Annabel Neasham’s yard found the clear over the final furlong and hit the front well to fend off a late challenge from Just Folk out wide.
Lord Vladivostock rattled home late for third and was probably unlucky not to win after being held up for a run.
- 1st: Bartholomieu Dias ($34)
- Just Folk ($2.30)
- Lord Vladivostock ($3.00)
Gold Trip has won the Melbourne Cup as a $21 shot!
Mark Zahra gave the European raider an absolute peach, stoking up three-wide at the turn to find the middle of the track down the straight.
The Maher and Eustace team, as well as Zahra, secured their first Cup win, while stablemate High Emocean flew home late to grab third.
- 1st: Gold Trip ($21)
- 2nd: Emissary ($7.50)
- 3rd: High Emocean ($10)
Detonator Jack has produced a huge turn of foot to take out the eighth on Cup Day in his first run back.
A big afternoon for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace continued with the lightly-raced stayer, bolting home out wide to run down the fast-finishing Munhamek.
The son of Jakkalberry was a little fractious getting into the gates but he quickly settled down under John Allen to win his fourth race from five starts.
- 1st: Detonator Jack ($7.00)
- 2nd: Munhamek ($1.60)
- 3rd: Nugget ($2.70)
