Seven races are scheduled to be run and won at Doomben on Wednesday.
There is a possibility of a late shower on Wednesday but hopefully that arrives after the last race and racing takes place on a Soft 5 to Good 4 surface. The rail is out 7.5m the entire course.
We’ve provided our best bets in each race below.
Race 1 - 1:08pm AEST
QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1350 METRES)
Rosefinch (8) was slow away and settled at the back of the pack when debuting at Ipswich over 1200m.
The Jason Edwards-trained filly then had to take off early to circle the field but despite the long run, she fought on well to finish third by 1.8 lengths.
She has since gone back to the trials where she looked to be more professional with a quick getaway before cruising to the line under a hold.
Jimmy Orman was on board in the trial and in a vote of confidence sticks here. The top jockey can make full use of the inside gate.
1 Unit – Rosefinch (8)
Race 2 - 1:43pm AEST
QTIS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (2220 METRES)
It’s disappointing that Top Boy has been scratched from this race as he looked like he had an excellent winning chance. Saturday might be his day.
In his absence, Brave Boy (8) offers good each way value following his last start win at Toowoomba over 2000m. He was given a peach of a ride by Michael Murphy who remains in the saddle.
Christos Zintilis has this guy rock hard fit and he’s racing in great form with a hard fought third at Murwillumbah in the Tygalgah Cup two starts back and a win at Dalby four starts ago.
1 Unit Each Way – Brave Boy (8)
Race 3 - 2:18pm AEST
Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)
Whisky Train (8) has improved with each run this preparation and should be at peak fitness fourth-up.
The Heinrich and Beaton-trained grey gelding ran on strongly and was doing his best work late when finishing second by 1.53 lengths over 1200m here last start.
Being sired by Reliable Man and given the way he ran on; he’ll appreciate the rise to 1350m.
Mark Du Plessis takes the ride and should be able to settle in a forward position from barrier 2.
1 Unit Each Way – Whisky Train (8)
Race 4 - 2:53pm AEST
THE SHIRLEY WHITE CUP CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1350 METRES)
Maid To Fit (6) returned to racing in fine style with a dominant win over 1200m here last start.
The Kelly Schweida-trained Snitzel mare raced handy before dashing strongly at the top of the straight to put her rivals away easily and win by 1.53 lengths.
She had more in the tank and will have come on since that run.
Jimmy Orman remains in the saddle and can give her a great run from the inside gate.
2 Units – Maid To Fit (6)
Race 5 - 3:28pm AEST
Class 5 Handicap (1350 METRES)
Prime Asset (3) will appreciate drawing the inside gate after a string of races where he has drawn wide.
Despite the unfavourable barriers he has still raced well.
Two starts back he drew the outside in a field of ten over this course and distance but still showed plenty of fight to win narrowly.
Last start the Heinrich and Beaton-trained gelding was forced to work overtime to find the lead so understandably was run down late to finish third by 1.38 lengths.
He’ll appreciate the drop in class and only rises slightly in weight.
1 Unit – Prime Asset (3)
Race 6 - 4:03pm AEST
BENCHMARK 68 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Daytona (2) resumes here and is also having his first start for Queensland’s leading trainer Tony Gollan after previously racing in Sydney with Michael Freedman.
The four-year-old finished last preparation with a 1.75 length eighth in the C.S. Hayes Stakes and a 2.84 length fifth in the Phar Lap Stakes.
That’s great form for a Benchmark 68 Handicap despite having to contend with the outside gate.
He looked good winning a recent trial and with the blinkers going back on, there looks to be some intent from Gollan for a bold first-up showing.
Cejay Graham’s 2kg claim helps.
1 Unit – Daytona (2)
Race 7 - 4:38pm AEST
BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1650 METRES)
Rising Pacific (7) returned in great order at the Sunshine Coast when finishing third over 1400m.
The Tony Gollan-trained gelding was forced to settle at the back after drawing wide but ran on strongly down the outside to finish just 1.3 lengths behind the promising Naval Trader.
He’ll strip fitter and being sired by Preferment, will appreciate the rise in trip.
He can settle closer for Jimmy Orman from barrier 3 and looks hard to beat.
2 Units – Rising Pacific (7)
