Nine races will be contested at headquarters this Saturday as the Victorian Racing Club acknowledges their loyal members.
The feature event on the card is the Deane Lester Flemington Cup for the stayers, to be run over 2800m.
The rail will be out 3m and the track is currently rated a heavy 8.
We’ve had a close look at all nine events on the card and our thoughts can be found below.
Politely Dun was doing his best work late over the mile here last start and he’ll relish stepping out to 1800m.
Sporting the blinkers for the first time, the son of Dundeel was slightly slow away and as result found himself at the back of the field and just wanted to race a bit keen in the early part.
When brought to the outside at the top of the straight and asked for an effort, he let down well and picked nicely over the final 100m.
Having just had the two race starts, he looks an improving type.
Damian Lane goes aboard for Danny O’Brien and if he jumps away clean and can settle within striking distance, he’ll be right in this.
1 unit – POLITELY DUN
Subrising has won two of her past three starts and looks well placed to add to that tally.
She was solid to the line when chasing home the leading pair two runs back and proved too strong last time on the Hillside, despite lumping the 59kgs.
The filly does rise in grade but drops 4.5kgs and is set to get the gun run from gate five under Jamie Kah.
Her best runs have been on soft tracks and she’ll get conditions to suit.
1 unit – SUBRISING
First Settler could not have been more impressive when saluting on debut.
The high priced colt had performed well in jump outs prior to making his first raceday appearance and despite a wide run, he proved superior over the 1000m at Caulfield.
Adding further merit to the performance, he was found to have lost a plate during the event.
The son of Written Tycoon was a touch green over the final part, suggesting there’s improvement to come and I think he’ll be well suited down the Flemington straight.
Mick Dee got a good feel for him last time and he stays in the saddle for the Price / Kent team.
3 units – FIRST SETTLER
Cindy Falls has performed very well in two starts on Australian soil.
A recent addition to the Hope stable, the New Zealand mare was solid over the mile when racing up on speed.
After working hard in the early part she looked a winning chance 100m out but was just collared in the final part.
Back to 1400m last time, she was restrained to a clear last off the wide gate and showed an explosive turn of foot to charge down the outside and salute in the Leilani Final here.
The rise back to 1600m will suit and she’s proven in the conditions.
1 unit – CINDY FALLS
Lovazou is on the quick back up as she looks to make it three straight this campaign.
Only lightly raced, she’s always shown nice ability but hasn’t always had things go her way.
She kicked off her career in style with a second placing at Group Three company, which was over this course and distance, before pulling up with cardiac arrythmia at her following outing.
Things have all fallen into place for her this time in and I think there’s more to come for this daughter of Zoustar.
Celine Gaudray stays in the saddles, she’ll take 1.5kgs off and the wet track is also a plus.
1 unit – LOVAZOU
Baraqiel has taken all before him since making his debut in early May and I think he can continue on his winning way here.
The well bred son of Snitzel has always shown plenty of natural talent but had setbacks along the way and the now five year old is rewarding his patient connections in a big way.
Unbeaten in four outings, he continues to rise to the occasion and despite wanting to run around and race greenly, he’s still proven too good.
The Flemington straight will be a big test for him but if he can hold focus, he’ll be hard to beat again.
Ben Allen has partnered him in all four raceday appearances and he’ll again do the steering for team Corstens.
1 unit – BARAQIEL
Taramansour is racing well in presents here hard fit.
He was luckless at Caulfield three runs back and has since finished the runner up in two subsequent outings.
Out to 2600m last time, he was solid through the line behind the very talented Berkshire Breeze and held a clear 1.5 length margin back to third.
The rise to 2800m looks suitable for this son of Dansili and Jamie Kah goes aboard for Phillip Stokes.
1 unit – TARAMANSOUR
Cadmus continues to perform well and comes here off a very impressive last start victory over 1800m on the Hillside.
Taken back off the wide gate, he had just one runner behind him and with plenty of ground to make up at the top of the straight, he launched late to reel in Pounding, who looked to have the race won.
Posting a two length margin on the line, the Gleneagles gelding looked to have plenty in hand and will relish the rise in trip here.
After beginning his career in the UK, he has worked through his with relative ease since arriving down under and looks a very smart stayer on the way up.
Jye McNeil stays aboard, he’ll only carrying an extra 1.5kgs and the wide gate suits as he can get back and produce his best late.
2 units – CADMUS
Luna Cat has hit form and looks well placed dropping back in grade.
The Puissance de Lune mare scored a solid second up win over 1000m on the Hillside two runs back and she was strong to the line last time over 1100m in a BM84 at Caulfield.
Boasting a terrific record over the 1000m, she’ll appreciate the slight drop back in trip and she has performed well in all three appearances here.
Luke Currie has partnered her at her last two outings and he’ll again take the reins for team Hayes.
