Formula 1 fans can rejoice in the fact they can almost instantly move on from another forgettable Monaco Grand Prix with the circus heading to Barcelona this weekend for the ninth round of the 2025 World Championship.
Lando Norris closed the gap on his Aussie teammate Oscar Piastri with his win in Monaco as the McLaren dominance of 2025 continued.
However we are starting to see some improvement from the other teams on the grid as are able to implement their upgrades and produce faster, more effective cars.
The Spanish Grand Prix has been dominated by two men over the last decade, with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen winning every race at the circuit since 2016 with this being the final race before the event moves to Madrid in 2026.

Race Winner
It’s tough to read too much into the respective performances in Monaco given the unique nature of the street circuit but Max Verstappen did well to lead the race until he had to take a mandatory pit stop late on.
That cost him a podium place with the two McLarens finishing on the podium as well as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
This is another track that favours the front row of the grid with the winners list dominated by drivers that started on pole position.
Both Verstappen and Piastri have three poles to their name with Lando Norris taking the other two top spots.
Verstappen knows how to win at this track and has the nous to keep pace with the two papaya drivers, which makes him a solid value play in this market.

Whoever wins this race is going to be pushed right to the finish line and another close finish looks to be on the cards.
Verstappen was just able to pip Norris last year by 2.219 seconds in 2024 and it’s worth having a play on once again.

Podium Finish
There are two approaches for this market, the first of which is backing a boring and predictable race with the top three pulling away from the field.
Grouping together both McLarens and Verstappen on the podium should at least provide some consolation for sitting through a race with minimal jeopardy.
After all, that combination has hit twice already this season and it seems unlikely that the race in Monza two weeks ago will be the last time we see that.
The other approach is trying to find a driver to break up the triumvirate with Charles Leclerc or George Russell the two standout candidates to do that.
Russell has four podiums so far and will be eager to atone for his efforts in Monaco.
The Brit is at a better price in this market and he has two podiums from his last three starts here.

Top 6 Finish
The duo of Kimi Antonelli and Alex Albon are once again the standout plays in this market and the hope is that they will be able to move on from their efforts in Monaco.
Albon could not escape the train of cars he spent the afternoon driving in for a ninth place finish while Antonelli never really got going and had to settle for 18th.
It looks like it is worth running it back this weekend with both at slightly higher prices this time around.

Points Finish
Just the one play for this market, backing RB driver Isack Hadjar to pick up points for the third race in a row.
His sixth place finish in Monaco was his best performance of the season and he is worth a punt here.
Unfortunately no other drivers at over even money really stand out in this market and it’s not worth forcing a play.
