New Plymouth hosts a competitive eight-race card this Saturday. Due to inclement weather leading into raceday, a testing surface is expected throughout the day.
Track: Heavy10
Rail: Out 4m
Tips for each of the eight races below:
Keen to be with Luminance (#5) at the price. The wetter the better for this filly and she should get conditions to suit here. Expect to see her roll forward and sit outside Spandeedo. Should take some beating.

Locally trained 3yo, King Jakkal (#10), has produced two very good trial wins that suggest he is forward for this debut run. Can make his first start a winning one.
10. King Jakkal (4) 56kg
It’s been some time since we’ve seen the best version of Fancypants (#5). He resumes fresh, has trialled up nicely, and the blinkers go on for this. Craig Grylls takes the steer, and the Heavy track shouldn’t concern him. If he returns anywhere near his best, he’ll be hard to hold out.
5. Fancypants (6) 58kg48376
What A Charma (#5) found the line well for 3rd last start. He looks well placed again down in the weights with just 52kg after the apprentice claim, and he has typically gone well here on Heavy10 tracks in the past. Looks a strong each way chance at the price.
5. What A Charma (1) 55.5kg51843
Dorothy’s Daughter (#16) comes into this off the back of a last-start jumps win. Her prior effort for 4th at this course/distance caught the eye, and her recent hurdling efforts should leave her fit and ready for this flat assignment. Capable of running a cheeky race at odds.
Indian Gold (#5) built nicely to a strong win here last start. He steps up in grade but drops to just 53.5kg after the apprentice claim, which looks a key advantage on what will be a testing surface. Expect him to get back and be powering over the top late.
5. Indian Gold (8) 57.5kgX2321
King Khan (#2) is a grinding type of stayer who will relish the testing conditions. While he is yet to perform well beyond 2200m, I expect him to be put to sleep back in the field and look to round things out strongly under Craig Grylls. This is a very even field for the Road to the Jericho, but King Khan is the one they have to beat.

War Queen (#6) ran a very good race for 5th last start, looming into it before peaking on her run late in proceedings. She has shown she can handle Heavy conditions and she’ll need to come the last of the day. With Craig Grylls aboard from a handy draw, she is the clear horse to beat.
