Aussie Adam Walton takes on big-serving American Sebastian Korda in the first round of the Hangzhou Open.
World No.76 Walton produced some strong results on the North American swing, reaching the Los Cabos Open semis, beat Daniil Medvedev at the Cincinnati Masters and defeated Ugo Humbert in the first round of the US Open.
Korda, slipping to 79th in the rankings, continues to be hampered by injuries. He made the Winston-Salem semis in his first tournament since the French Open, then retired at two sets down against Cameron Norrie in the first round of the US Open.
Walton arrives in China with a fair bit of momentum and looks a great chance of knocking over underdone $1.50 favourite Korda here.
Australian journeyman Aleksandar Vuckic and Belgian veteran David Goffin square off for the third time in 2025 at the Hangzhou Open.
The head-to-head is one-all after two encounters earlier this year. Vukic won in straight sets at the Brisbane International, while Goffin came from a set down at the Miami Masters.
World No.93 Vukic beat Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the Citi Open, and Pedro Martinez and Cameron Norrie at the Canadian Masters, before going down to Jenson Brooksby in a five-setter in the first round of the US Open.
Former top-10 star Goffin (currently 87th) lost four consecutive first-round matches before beating Quentin Halys at the US Open. He went down heavily to 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti in the second round.
Vukic heads in as a $1.62 favourite, but a tight tussle looms here.
There’s nothing between Frenchman Arthur Cazaux and Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in the head-to-head market ahead of their Hangzhou Open encounter.
Their only clash to date saw Cazaux retire with the scores locked 5-5 in the first set at the 2024 Barcelona Open.
After a semi-final run at the Gstaad Open and making the Generali Open final, world No.84 Cazaux performed modestly on the North American swing and failed to qualify for the US Open.
Arnaldi cracked the top 30 last year but is currently 73rd and on a four-match losing streak. The clay specialist lost a five-setter to Francisco Cerundolo in the first round of the US Open.
The 24-year-old did reach the Canadian Masters semis last year, however, so he’s no slouch on hard courts and shapes as the best bet in this pick ’em.
Chinese duo Bu Yunchaokete and Zhizhen Zhang carry the home fans’ hopes at the Hangzhou Open but have been drawn to play one another in the first round.
The pair’s only previous meeting was at this tournament last year, with Zhang taking out the semifinal 7-6 6-4. He went on to lose the final to Marin Cilic.
Nudging the top 30 last year, Zhang is only just inside the top 200 after a hiatus. This is his first match since Indian Wells and he hasn’t won since upsetting Hubert Hurkacz at the Open 13 in February.
Yunchaokete hit a career-high No.64 in April and produced one of his most significant runs on the season at the Winston-Salem Open, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas and Mariano Navone on his way to the quarters. He then lost to Valetin Royer in the first round of the US Open in straight sets.
But with Zhang so short on match practice, Yunchaokete is the clear pick here – even if he’s a little short at $1.33 for the win.
