Q2 Parklands Preview – Thursday 18th September

Q2 Parklands Preview – Thursday 18th September

Thursday night’s meeting at Q2 Parklands delivers a strong 12-race card, with the spotlight firmly on the heats of the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars.

This prestigious sprint series has long been a proving ground for Queensland’s sharpest young chasers, and this year’s edition is no exception.

Time to dive into the Q2 Parklands form and identify the runners with the best winning credentials.

Race 1 – 5th/6th Grade 600m
No. 6 Goldmine Fire

GOLDMINE FIRE (6) just needs to repeat his last start effort to be winning this race.

The son of Wow railed up on the first turn over this course and distance last start to find the lead and was never headed, dashing clear to win by seven lengths in a best of the night 34.54 seconds.

He’d been racing in good form before that with a win over 642m at Q1 Lakeside five starts back and fourth placing in the NSW National Distance Championship Final four races ago.

On his best jump he should be able to find the front early from box 6.

Race 2 – 5th/6th Grade 600m
No. 2 Whiskey Service

WHISKEY SERVICE (2) is racing in a rich vein of form and is looking for his fifth win in a row.

The son of Whiskey Riot loves this course and distance having won five of seven starts over it with one of those wins coming from this box just three starts ago.

He has been electric in his two most recent races here where he clocked slick times of 34.37 and 34.41 seconds in all the way romps.

From box 2 he should get on the arm and prove hard to catch.

Race 3 – OPEN 710m
No. 7 Firethorn

This is a cracking staying race that has attracted a stellar crew of distance dogs.

I’m sticking with FIRETHORN (7) who has gone to another level and is in search of her fifth win in a row.

The daughter of Wow returns from Sydney where he led all the way over 720m at Wentworth Park for a seven-length win in a best of the night 42.17 seconds.

She loves this course and distance having won four of five starts including her most recent three races at the track where she defeated many of the same dogs she faces here and clocked some very quick times.

She has the speed to cross from box 7 and lead.

Race 4 – 5th Grade 710m
No. 1 Kingsbrae Pumbaa

KINGSBRAE PUMBAA (1) stepped up to this distance for the first time last start and handled it well albeit without luck.

The Ando’s Mac bitch was slow away and encountered trouble shortly after box rise which saw her way out the back, but to her credit she motored home to finish a distant second to Goldstar Ginny.

She showed what she was capable of with a quick getaway when winning over 660m at Grafton four starts back.

If she jumps well, she can take advantage of box 1 and settle close in the run.

Race 5 – 4th Grade 520m
No. 6 Star Turn

STAR TURN (6) is well placed against this field.

The Jeff Crawford-trained dog was last seen chasing home Validate over this course and distance when finishing second in 29.88 seconds.

She won here two starts ago in 29.96 seconds and also boasts a speedy personal best time of 29.51 seconds.

The Group 3 winner just needs to avoid trouble to be in the frame.

Race 6 – Molly Campbell Silver Dollars Heat
No. 6 Pop’s Maestro

POP’S MAESTRO (6) returns from a luckless Townsville Cup campaign that saw him finish fifth in the Final after a slow start from box 5.

The Travis Elson-trained dog was brilliant in his heat the start prior when flying out of the squeeze box to lead all the way in smart time.

He’s won two of three races over this course and distance with a personal best of 29.76 seconds which he set at just his fourth start.

He has the speed to cross and lead from box 6.

Race 7 – Molly Campbell Silver Dollars Heat
No. 7 Sin City Secrets

SIN CITY SECRETS (7) has taken to life in Queensland brilliantly, winning all three of his races since moving here following a debut fourth at Bendigo.

The son of Black Magic Opal settled second over this course and distance last start before powering home to win by 3.5 lengths in 29.76 seconds.

Two starts ago he led all the way from this box to win in 29.98 seconds.

I expect him to be handy in the run and if that’s the case then he should take some holding out.

Race 8 – Molly Campbell Silver Dollars Heat
No. 6 Moet Magic

MOET MAGIC (6) will give us a tremendous sight but she’s one of those hounds that I struggle to catch.

The Ray Burman-trained bitch has been racing in good form at Q1 Lakeside where she was last seen finishing third in Open company over 550m.

She won back-to-back races immediately before that, both in best of the night times.

She’s armed with excellent early speed so should find the front and if she can replicate her personal best of 29.81 seconds over this course and distance then she should be fighting out the finish.

Race 9 – Molly Campbell Silver Dollars Heat
No. 4 Memory Of Mum
Tip of The Day

MEMORY OF MUM (4) looks hard to beat in this heat of the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars after impressing over this course and distance last start.

The Aussie Infrared bitch led all the way for a three-length win in 29.87 seconds.

She registered a personal best of 29.85 seconds five starts ago when exiting this box.

There doesn’t look to be a great deal of speed drawn around her which should set her up nicely.

Race 10 – 5th Grade 520m
No. 7 Juniper Rose

JUNIPER ROSE (7) will find this a lot easier than her past few races which included the Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase Regional Final at Casino.

The Warren Nicholls-trained dog has won two of three starts over this course and distance with her only defeat coming at the hands of Memory Of Mum after a slow start.

Four and five starts back she won here in best of the night times of 29.74 and 29.83 seconds.

If she produces her best jump, she should be well placed to claim this race.

Race 11 – 5th Grade 520m
No. 4 Hooked On Kisses

HOOKED ON KISSES (4) rises back to this distance after narrowly going down over 457m at Q1 Lakeside last start.

The Jeff Crawford-trained bitch finished runner-up to Memory Of Mum in back-to-back races over this course and distance recently when breaking 30 seconds.

She was able to turn the tables on that dog two starts ago when tracking across beautifully from box 8 to settle handy before powering home to win by 4.25 lengths in 29.80 seconds.

I expect her to be prominent in the run given she has the necessary speed to counter box 4.

Race 12 – 5th Grade 520m
No. 7 Prim And Precise

PRIM AND PRECISE (7) looks ready to step up to this distance following four runs over shorter trips since returning from a long break.

The Tom Tzouvelis-trained bitch won over 457m at Q1 Lakeside in a best of the night time three starts ago before winning back-to-back races up the Capalaba straight.

She’s a quality chaser having finished third in the Group 3 Rising Stars Final in November and fourth in the Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity in January.

Both races were over this distance and given her recent performances, I expect her to be strong late.
