Kilmore Harness Preview – Wednesday 30th September

OVERVIEW: OZZIE DIAMOND (3) is a maiden taking on more experienced horses who have already won races, but she has been racing better than her numerical form suggests. She finished fifth in the Vicbred Super Series heat two starts ago behind Ideal Frankie before being a late scratching from the semi-final. She raced well last start at Mildura but was checked late. She has the best sectional times in this event. BLUE CANNON (1) ran home well last start at this track despite racing wide. He should get a much better trip from the fence here and, being third-up, should be close to peak fitness. IAMAWINGATE (8) is racing well and, with the right trip, has the turn of foot to flash home late. TREACHEROUSTIMES (5) has the gate speed and turn of foot to put himself in a competitive position early. 

BACK: OZZIE DIAMOND (3) – 2 units (win) 

SELECTIONS: OZZIE DIAMOND (3), BLUE CANNON (1), IAMAWINGATE (8), TREACHEROUSTIMES (5) 

OVERVIEW: SHEER ME (4) is second-up here for new trainer Alex Ashwood. She ran well at Melton last start in good time, leading and only being beaten narrowly late. She should take improvement from that performance. MYSTIC MOTIVER (2) is a lightly raced mare having just her fifth career start. She is first-up here, but she performed well last campaign and should continue to improve with experience. She will likely map well here. SPOT THE DEVIL (9) is third up here for new trainer Mark Watson. He is racing ok and gets a good barrier to map well here. DYGANALI (6) got well back last start but ran home OK. She is racing well and looks close to breaking through for her maiden victory. ZEE HOUTEN (5) is having her second career start but hasn’t raced since September 2024. Her recent trial form has been good, but race fitness could be a query from the barrier here. 

BACK: SHEER ME (4) – 3 units (win) 

SELECTIONS: SHEER ME (4), MYSTIC MOTIVER (2), SPOT THE DEVIL (9), DYGANALI (6)

OVERVIEW: SOHO PLAYGIRL (7) flashed home to win impressively by a nice margin two starts ago at Shepparton. Last start, she was held up late but let down well once she found clear running. Barrier seven makes it challenging, but she has the class to overcome it. THE NIGHT FOX (4) is second-up here after arriving from New Zealand. In his first-up run, he got stuck in the breeze and raced keenly before tiring late. He’s been back to the trials since, where he has been OK, and he should improve with that run under his belt. POPCORNFRIDAY (8) is first-up here but has options being the only horse on the second row. His last few runs before going for a spell were strong, and he should get his chance to settle early. OUR CHEEKY DEVIL (5) is stepping out for start 214. He’s an experienced horse with a great turn of foot. He’s racing well but has an awkward barrier to overcome. 

SELECTIONS: SOHO PLAYGIRL (7), THE NIGHT FOX (4), POPCORNFRIDAY (8), OUR CHEEKY DEVIL (5) 

OVERVIEW: MELICAN (3) has had the one career start, which was a brilliant victory at Hobart, winning by 25.2 metres. She was very green in the run, galloping and racing roughly. She is first-up in Victoria for Rebecca Bartley. She should perform well, but her manners are a query against more experienced mares. OZZIE TART (5) and QUEENHIGH FLUSH (2) are both speedy beginners who will likely look to map positively early. OZZIE TART (5) was a good fifth in the Group 1 Vicbred Super Series Final two starts ago, but got it wrong with her manners at Mildura last start after jumping a shadow. That run is easy to forgive, and she will be looking to bounce back here. QUEENHIGH FLUSH (2) is in good form and gets the benefit of what should be a favourable race map here. FOUR EVER A STAR (1) is on the comeback after a few years on the sidelines. This is her fifth start back, and she’s getting better with each run. She has a good barrier here. 

SELECTIONS: MELICAN (3), OZZIE TART (5), QUEENHIGH FLUSH (2), FOUR EVER A STAR (1) 

OVERVIEW: LITTLE MISS MORGAN (2) is a talented trotter who is still figuring out her race manners. She was a brilliant third behind superstar mares Gatesys Gem and Jilliby Dreamlover two starts back in the Vicbred Super Series heat. In the Group 1 Final, she hit the line well but was too far back. This is an easier race. ABBIE (7) is second-up here and should improve with fitness after her tough first-up run. She is a smart mare on her day, but she has an awkward barrier. VOLDAGHA (3) is another runner who is second-up here. Last start, he was beaten 14.6 metres behind the smart Muskee, and he should improve with fitness here. CHAMPAGNES (8) is a fast trotting mare who has had a brilliant, career-best 12 months of racing. This would be one of her toughest tests, but she is the only horse on the back row, so she has space to settle early. Also respecting MAJESTIC MONARCH (1) from the barrier. 

BACK: LITTLE MISS MORGAN (2) – 3 units (win) 

SELECTIONS: LITTLE MISS MORGAN (2), ABBIE (7), VOLDAGHA (3), CHAMPAGNES (8). 

OVERVIEW: MONEY TALKS (7) is only a two-time winner, but he’s consistent and rarely runs a bad race. He flashed home well from last to finish third last start and, with some luck, he can be flashing home again here. BETSY ANNE (4) has the gate speed to be tactical early and hopefully find a good position. She struggled a little last start at Charlton, but her runs prior were good and she looks ready to get back into the winner’s circle. CHARLIE WALKER (6) was a good winner when leading three starts back. He’s been performing well since and also has the gate speed to map well here. NUCLEAR ATTITUDE (5) is another consistent performer who rarely puts in a bad run. If he finds some luck, he’s a first-four chance here. 

SELECTIONS: MONEY TALKS (7), BETSY ANNE (4), CHARLIE WALKER (6), NUCLEAR ATTITUDE (5) 

OVERVIEW: SILENT REVERIE (5) is a trotter who is racing well. She should have enough gate speed to find the front here and be hard to beat from there. She rarely races at Kilmore, but she has won at the track in one of her few attempts. AHUNDREDPLUS (6) is second-up here and should improve from her first-up seventh at Melton in a tougher race. The barrier is awkward, but the smaller field should help. CADENCE LANE (4) ran home well for a good third at Charlton last start. She is a nice horse at her best and looks close to returning to her best form. SABIHALIL (1) has the ace barrier and should get a good fence trip here.
