World No.4 Taylor Fritz and ninth-ranked Lorenzo Musetti open their ATP Finals campaigns against one another on Monday.
Musetti boasts a 3-2 record against Fritz, winning their last three encounters – all during 2024. They have only met on hard courts once, with Fritz claiming the win in a 2022 Davis Cup tie.
Musetti lost the final in Athens to Novak Djokovic on the weekend to seemingly quash his hopes of a maiden ATP Finals appearance, but Djokovic’s injury withdrawal stamped the Italian’s ticket to Turin.
The 23-year-old has had a fruitful few months on hard courts, reaching the US Open quarterfinals and the Vienna Open semis.
Fritz’s last appearance was an early loss to Alexander Bublik at the Paris Masters, struggling for rhythm since reaching the Japan Open final in September. He also made the last eight at the US Open.
Musetti has 13 top-10 wins to his credit, but only three of those were on hard-courts – most recently against Alexander Zverev in Vienna last year. But $1.48 favourite Fritz’s recent form is a concern.
World No.1 Jannik Sinner is a $1.07 favourite to account for eighth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime
Sinner has a 3-2 lead against Auger-Aliassime after winning all three 2025 clashes to date, at the Cincinnati Masters (6-0 6-2), the US Open semis (6-1 3-6 6-3 6-4) and last month’s Paris Masters final (6-4 7-6). Auger-Aliassime’s two wins against the Italian were in 2022.
Auger-Aliassime stormed back into the top 10 after reaching the US Open semis, the Shanghai Masters quarters and his impressive run in Paris.
Sinner has lost just once since going down to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open final.
The Australian Open and Wimbledon champ won the China Open and the Vienna Open before triumphing in Paris.
The runner-up here in 2023 and the winner last year, Sinner is hard to back against – but Auger-Aliassime’s recent efforts against the megastar provide some hope of an upset.
Veteran bad boy Bernard Tomic takes on fellow Australian Li Tu in the opening round of this week’s Brisbane Challenger.
Former top-20 star Tomic, currently ranked 185th, reached two Challenger finals in August and qualified for the Almaty Open last month with wins over Denis Yevseyev and Marc-Andrea Huesler (both from a set down), before going down to Corentin Moutet.
Tu reached a career-high No.160 in July but has slipped outside the top 250. He grabbed a notable win over James Duckworth in Cincinnati Masters qualifying in August.
The 33-year-old Tomic should progress here, showing glimpses of the old magic in 2025.
Second seed Vit Kopriva takes on 20-year-old Arthur Gea in the first round of the All In Open in Lyon.
World No.92 Kopriva is coming off a Round of 16 run at the Hellenic Championship in Athens, winning two qualifying matches before upsetting Reilly Opelka in the first round.
The Czech 28-year-old has one Challenger 125 title to his name in 2025 and made the final of the Layjet Open in September.
Gea achieved a career-high ranking of No.227 by reaching the semis in a Challenger event in Monastir two weeks ago.
He made his ATP Tour debut in February and won three Challenger titles in August alone.
Kopriva looks the clear value as a slight outsider, forever, and shapes as a top contender for the trophy in Lyon.
