We’re back out to Warwick Farm in Sydney’s west on Wednesday for another quality seven-race program.
At publish, we’re looking at a track rated in the Soft (5) range, while the rail will be set out 5 metres 1000m-W/Post and 3 metres the remainder.
Read on for this week’s Warwick Farm best bets.
Pin Up Sheila won on debut and can go on with it at Warwick Farm this week.
The Pinatubo filly showed ability at the trials prior to debuting and put the writing on the wall with an eye-catching performance to get up at Canterbury last month.
She’s been kept up to the mark with a trial since that effort and something like this looks the next logical step.
| 1. Pin Up Sheila (3) J: Dylan Gibbons 58kg 1T: Tom Charlton | |||
| Claiming her maiden victory on debut; won by 0.6 len at Canterbury 2yo F Mdn May 27 over 1100m on a heavy track defeating Celestial Charm with 58kg at $12. Since runner-up in a Randwick trial over 1050m on June 12. Will take a lot from that run and is sure to play a big role again. | |||
All but one horse is on debut in this contest, including Spain.
By Snitzel, Spain has trialled up well ahead of this week’s debut and has drawn nice and low, while he should receive every chance under Timmy Clark.
| 10. Spain (2) J: Tim Clark 57kg T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | |||
| First start. By leading sire Snitzel out of Lagertha. Was second in a Beaumont (Newcastle) trial over 800m June 3. Must respect the Waterhouse/Bott youngsters. | |||
Another race without a lot of form to study, Radicals is one that has made an appearance at the races and should take good improvement for that experience.
Radicals was sent off a $4.40 chance at Hawkesbury earlier this month and only just missed behind the promising Cosmic Order.
At around the $11 mark this week (at publish), I think she’ll get the right sort of run, and we can have an each way play at the quote.
| 12. Radicals (9) J: Tim Clark 57kg 2T: Joseph Pride | |||
| Was well in the market at debut, held ground to the line 2nd of 7 at Hawkesbury 3yo F Mdn-Sw on June 4 over 1000m, on a slow track; head behind Cosmic Order carrying 56kg at $4.80. Should take the next step today and is among the leading contenders. | |||
Concordia Wind is another one at odds I’ve got my eye on at Warwick Farm this week.
The Justify mare has rarely been far away through 13 trips to the races since debuting, and after returning to action to finish less than a length second in BM72 company at Canterbury, she was last seen finishing on the placegetters’ heels in a similar race at Randwick-Kensington, albeit beaten only half a length.
She boasts a key fitness edge over some main rivals this week, the mile suits, and she’s another one whom we can have something on each way.
| 11. Concordia Wind (11) J: Siena Grima 57.5kg 64×24T: Chris Waller | |||
| Third-up today. First-up 2nd of 9 at Canterbury 4yo+ Bm72 on May 27 over 1250m, slow going 0.8 len behind Laurel Hill carrying 57kg at $2.05. Second run from a spell ran on strongly from last on the turn; 4th of 8 at Randwick Kensington F&M Bm72 on June 10 over 1400m, on a slow track; 0.6 len behind Cherish Me carrying 59.5kg at $5.50. Racing well. Shapes up nicely under today’s scenario. | |||
I’m happy to give Sister Daae another chance third up from a spell this week.
Her condition just gave out a little late when she returned to action at Newcastle first up this time, but after heading back to the trials, she was only just denied in the shadows of the post at Randwick-Kensington last time out.
She’s a horse we know will enjoy racing on a soft deck, she gets some relief in the weights under Siena Grima, and she has options in the run from the rails draw.
| 7. Sister Daae (1) J: Siena Grima 58kg 75×42T: Chris Waller | |||
| Third-up today and placed third-up previously. First-up came from midfield; 4th of 13 at Newcastle Bm64 on May 19 over 1400m, slow going 1.75 len behind Rach carrying 59.5kg at $6.50. Last start 2nd of 8 at Randwick Kensington F&M Bm72 on June 10 over 1400m, slow going nose behind Cherish Me carrying 57.5kg at $6.50. Profiles nicely. Handy mare who will be peaking for this assignment. | |||
Airworthy is third up into a winnable race at Warwick Farm this week.
The Farnan colt is yet to strike in two runs back from a break but has been right in both contests, finding form around the likes of Cheeky Smirk and Hello Captain.
Tim Clark can find a positive position in the run from barrier 4 and with a clear run late, I think they’ll be hard to toss.
| 13. Airworthy (4) J: Tim Clark 57.5kg 15×34T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | |||
| Third-up today. First-up sat on speed throughout when 3rd of 9 at Canterbury 3yo Bm64 on May 27 over 1250m, on rain affected going; 0.7 len behind Cheeky Smirk carrying 61kg at $7. Second-up 4th of 10 at Canterbury 3yo Bm64 on June 8 over 1250m, slow going 2.25 len behind Hello Captain with 59.5kg at $6. Ready to return to peak form. | |||
Astronomix resumes in a winnable race this week.
We haven’t seen the Calyx gelding at the races since February, but he was an impressive winner at this point of his last preparation before turning in a couple of strong subsequent performances in stronger races.
He’s had the benefit of a few trials ahead of this race and can hit the ground running.
| 6. Astronomix (8) J: Anna Roper 58kg 123xT: Tom Charlton | |||
| Resuming after a four months break. Finished off last preparation third in a small field at Rosehill Bm72 February 25 over 1100m, 1.4 len behind Banjora with 57.5kg at $2.70. At his first start won by 2.5 len Randwick Kensington 3yo Mdn-Sw January 14 over 1000m slow track defeating Farfetched carrying 57kg at $3.10. Capable of a bold return. | |||
