Britain’s best hope of a homegrown Wimbledon women’s champion, Emma Raducanu comes up against Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic in the first round.
The pair met for the first time at the Dubai Championships earlier this year, with Ruzic claiming a 6-1 5-7 6-2 upset.
World No.61 Ruzic beat Ashlyn Krueger first up at the French Open – her maiden grand slam win – before going down to Madison Keys. She has suffered three straight first-round losses on grass since.
After reaching the Winners Open final, Raducanu endured a dismal run culminating in a first-round loss at the French Open to Solana Sierra.
The world No.33 then charged to the Queen’s Club final – including wins over Sorana Cirstea and Iva Jovic – but pulled out of the Nottingham Open. She has acknowledged the extent of her ankle injury, which clouds things for the $1.60 favourite.
Former US Open champ Raducanu has reached the fourth round twice at her home slam. If her body holds up, she should be far too classy for Ruzic, who is largely unproven on grass.
- Prediction: BACK ZVEREV TO COVER THE GAMES HANDICAP (-5.5) @ $2.00
Freshly minted grand slam champion Mirra Andreeva kicks off her Wimbledon campaign with a tricky assignment against Polish veteran Magda Linette.
Andreeva leads the head-to-head 3-1, most recently taking out their Qatar Open clash in February in straight sets.
Since triumphing at Roland Garros and cracking the top five for the first time, Andreeva has played one match – a 6-3 6-4 loss to Ekaterina Alexandrova at the Bad Homburg Open.
World No.59 Linette made it to the third round of the French Open – beating former champ Jelena Ostapenko before going down to Iga Swiatek – and arrives at Wimbledon on the back of a semifinal run at the Libema Open.
Linette has made it as far as the third round at Wimbledon three times, while Andreeva reached the quarterfinals for the first time last year.
The 19-year-old superstar should be too strong here, but the $1.19 favourite is giving a big start to an experienced campaigner in decent form.
- Prediction: BACK LINETTE TO COVER THE GAMES HANIDCAP (+5.5) @ $1.75
Eleventh seed Casper Ruud is an outsider against former top-10 star Hubert Hurkacz in one of the more intriguing Wimbledon first-round encounters.
Ruud boasts a 3-1 advantage against Hurkacz. They last met at the 2025 United Cup, where Ruud won in straight sets.
Hurkacz was a Wimbledon semifinalist in 2021 and his booming serve has been integral to one Halle Open title and another final at the grass-court tournament. But he’s only just inside the top 100 after injury wrecked the second half of 2025.
Results have been hard to come by since returning but a win over Andrey Rublev at the Terra Wortmann Open was a positive sign.
Ruud has not played since his fourth-round French Open exit to Joao Fonesca. The three-time major finalist has pieced together a 23-12 record this year, but he’s struggled on grass traditionally and has not been past the second round at Wimbledon.
For that reason, the big gun finds himself installed as a $2.65 underdog – and most are predicting Hurkacz’s serve will be too potent a weapon to overcome.
- Prediction: BACK OVER 40.5 TOTAL GAMES @ $1.95
Veteran grand slam winners Marin Cilic and Daniil Medvedev square off for the second time in a matter of weeks in Wimbledon’s opening round.
Medvedev won their Libema Open quarterfinal earlier this month 6-2 3-6 6-1, giving him a 4-1 record against Cilic.
The 37-year-old Cilic was Wimbledon runner-up in 2017 and made a spirited fourth-round charge last year after a four-year absence. After a modest clay swing, the world No.60 beat Denis Shapovalov and Nuno Borges at the Libema Open.
Seeded eighth here, Medvedev lost in the next round at the Libema Open to Kamil Majchrzak, while he was upset in the Terra Wortmann Open quarters by Daniel Altmaier.
After many years struggling at Wimbledon, he reached back-to-back semifinals in 2023-24 before being bundled out in the first round by Benjamin Bonzi last year. He was stunned by Adam Walton in the first round at the French Open.
The duo’s tight recent tussle on grass suggests Cilic is great value as a $3.20 underdog.
- Prediction: BACK CILIC TO COVER THE GAMES HANDICAP (+4.5) @ $1.78
