Our midweek Warwick Farm preview covers all seven races that will be run and won in Sydney’s west this Wednesday, August 19th.
The rail will be left in the true position around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Soft (6) range.
Read on for this week’s Warwick Farm best bets.
PROFITABELLE resumes in a winnable race at Warwick Farm.
The Profiteer filly debuted to fill the minors at Randwick back in January and went for a break after finishing down the order in the Inglis Millennium.
Having trialled well, this is the weakest task she’s been set so far on exposed form.
| 7. Profitabelle (8) J: Tommy Berry 57kg 30xT: Bjorn Baker | |||
| Resuming. Finished off last preparation 12th of 16 at Randwick in the LR Millennium February 7 over 1100m, 5 len behind Fireball with 54.5kg at $8. On debut third of 8 at Randwick 2yo Mdn January 3 over 1000m, soft track; 1.5 len behind Knightsbridge carrying 55kg at $3.50. Looks forward enough after a recent trial win. Trialled sharply in readiness and can make a winning return. | |||
SATIN SERENADE has already been well backed and is on track to start a clear and justifiable favourite under James McDonald.
The Frankel filly has only made one appearance at the races so far but couldn’t have done a lot more without winning that Canterbury maiden back in June.
Having been freshened, she’s trialled up well and again will take plenty of beating this week.
| 14. Satin Serenade (6) J: James McDonald 56kg 2xT: Chris Waller | |||
| Resumes from a spell after only one run when held ground to the line 2nd of 7 at Canterbury on June 8 over 1250m, slow going nose behind Miss Scandal with 56kg at $2.15. Should every chance from the draw with JMac pilotting. | |||
COLUMBUS can bounce back this week at Warwick Farm.
The Dundeel gelding returned to action with a dominant performance in BM64 company up at Newcastle but underperformed as an odds-on favourite Rosehill last time out.
Fitter third-up and back to the midweeks, I think he gets plenty of ticks this time.
| 1. Columbus (8) J: James McDonald 59kg 21×15T: Les Bridge | |||
| Third-up today and won third-up in the past. Resuming favourite; won by 1.75 len at Newcastle on July 14 over 1400m in soft going defeating Roma Green carrying 60kg at $1.45. Last start raced on the speed and boxed on steadily 5th of 9 at Rosehill on August 1 over 1500m, slow going 2 len behind Funshow carrying 58kg at $1.95. Back in grade now off a fair run and can bounce back third-up. | |||
I thought that BUBBLES UP looked well placed fresh from a break this week, in arguably one of the more open contests on the Warwick Farm program.
The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained mare won on debut at Rosehill back in February and went for a break after a couple of midfield performances in stronger races.
She’s had the benefit of a couple of trials and has options in the run from the rails draw this week.
| 9. Bubbles Up (1) J: Rachel King 57kg 154xT: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | |||
| Resuming. Finished off last preparation fourth of 8 at Hawkesbury 3&4yo Bm72 April 8 over 1500m, 1.75 len behind Night Agent with 54.5kg at $10. At her first start won by 0.6 len Rosehill F&M Mdn-Sw February 25 over 1200m defeating Cosmic Eagle carrying 57.5kg at $2.90. Will be prominent from the outset and looms as a major threat. | |||
MR MILLER is another clear favourite that I am keen to back at Warwick Farm this week.
The Almanzor gelding has hardly put a hoof wrong since debuting, winning a Warwick Farm maiden at his first start back in April and subsequently finishing the runner up in races at Randwick and Gosford.
He’s another one that has since been freshened, had a couple of trials and gets the services of James McDonald on Wednesday.
| 3. Mr Miller (3) J: James McDonald 59kg 122xT: Chris Waller | |||
| He is resuming after a three-and-a-half months break. Finished off last preparation second in a small field at Gosford 3&4yo Bm72 May 9 over 1600m, 0.5 len behind Nobler with 57kg at $1.95. On debut favourite; won by 0.7 len this track Super 3yo Mdn-Sw April 1 over 1300m slow track defeating Graffiti Tycoon with 57kg at $5.50. Looks to be loaded with ability and will take plenty of beating in his return. | |||
This is arguably the strongest race on the program and there’s a case to be made for a few of them, including FIERCE.
We haven’t seen Fierce at the races since March, but he turned in some strong performances last time in, winning easily first up before a couple of competitive performances at Rosehill and Newcastle.
Two recent trial performances add further confidence, and we can have an each way bet at current odds ($6 at publish).
| 9. Fierce (7) J: Tyler Schiller 57.5kg x142xT: M, W & J Hawkes | |||
| First-up. Finished off last preparation second of 11 at Newcastle Bm64 March 12 over 900m, a long neck behind Zing To Me carrying 60.5kg at $1.95. Previous preparation first-up favourite; won by 2.5 len Wyong Cl1 February 10 over 1000m defeating Gambler carrying 58.5kg at $2.10. Will improve on whatever he does in this. | |||
THE LITTLE GENERAL gets another nice chance to win at Warwick Farm this week, in my opinion.
Having won a BM68 sprint out at Hawkesbury at his first run back from a break, The Little General was flat at his second run at Canterbury but was only just denied in midweek metro company last time out.
He steps out this week in peak order and can make all of his own luck from a prominent position in the run under the urgings of Tim Clark.
| 7. The Little General (13) J: Tim Clark 57kg 5×172T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | |||
| Most recently sat on speed throughout when 2nd of 9 at Canterbury on August 5 over 1100m, head behind Harry’s Evidence carrying 60.5kg at $3.90. The run before that faded in the straight 7th of 10 at Canterbury on July 22 over 1100m, on a slow track; 4 len behind Lull with 58.5kg at $3.40. Sound on speed latest and should press on again to offset the draw. | |||
