EMMA NAVARRO VS PAULA BADOSA

Former top-10 stars Emma Navarro and Paula Badosa square off in one the Wimbledon women’s draw’s more interesting first-round encounters.

Badosa has a 2-1 record in the rivalry, winning at the 2024 Rome Masters and 2025 Berlin Ladies Open on grass either side of Navarro’s victory in the 2024 US Open quarterfinals.

Navarro, the 23rd seed, arrives in strong grass-court form after reaching the Nottingham Open final and upsetting reigning Wimbledon champ Iga Swiatek at the Bad Homburg Open.

Badosa endured a long back injury layoff after Wimbledon last year and is currently ranked 141st. After missing the French Open, she carved out an eye-catching win over Coco Gauff in Berlin two weeks ago.

Navarro was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in 2024, while 2025 Australian Open semifinalist Badosa – the $2.30 underdog in this one – has not been beyond the Round of 16.

After both claiming big-name scalps recently, however, the talented pair look set for a super-tight battle.

Prediction: BACK OVER 21.5 TOTAL GAMES @ $1.82

SERENA WILLIAMS VS MAYA JOINT

Aussie tyro Maya Joint lines up for a career highlight courtesy of Wimbledon first-round match-up against 44-year-old icon Serena Williams, who returns after a four-year absence.

Williams has won 23 grand slams – including seven at Wimbledon – but has not won a match at the All England Club since her back-to-back final losses in 2019-20. Her comeback has consisted of a couple of grass-court doubles matches.

Joint arrives on a 10-match tour-level losing streak that stretches back to the Adelaide International and has seen her slip to No.87 in the rankings after cracking the top 40 last year.

The 20-year-old is 2-7 in grand slam matches, with her two wins coming at the last two US Opens. Her last outing was a straight-sets defeat to Emiliana Arango at the Eastbourne International.

But it’s an enormous ask for Williams to come in with no competitive singles tennis under her belt. Though Joint has struggled for form, she’s a talented counterpuncher who should take some inspiration from the massive interest in this match.

Prediction: BACK JOINT TO COVER THE GAMES HANIDCAP (-2.5) @ $1.75

ALEX DE MINAUR VS ROMAN ANDRES BURRUCHAGA

Australian fifth seed Alex de Minaur is expected to make short work of $11 outsider Roman Andres Burruchaga in the first round at Wimbledon.

After a third-round French Open exit to Jakub Mensik, de Minaur reached the Libema Open final and looked good at the Queen’s Club Championships before going down to Brandon Nakashima in the quarters.

‘Demon’ boasts two grass-court titles and reached the Wimbledon quarters in 2024, where he had to withdraw from his fixture against Novak Djokovic. He got his shot at Djokovic in the fourth round last year, losing in four sets.

World No.65 Burruchaga is an out-and-out clay specialist. He made a maiden ATP final in Houston in April and earned his first grand slam win at the French Open over fellow Argentine Sebastian Baez. This is his first appearance at any of the other majors.

The 24-year-old’s grass-court build-up consisted of a three-set loss to 114th-ranked Brit Arthur Fery.

It’s a case of de Minaur by how much – and he should cover a hefty 8.5-game start.

Prediction: BACK UNDER 30.5 TOTAL GAMES @ $1.73

THANASI KOKKINAKIS VS ALEXANDER BUBLIK

After a stirring first-up effort at the French Open, injury-hampered Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis is aiming for an upset of 10th seed Alexander Bublik on day two at Wimbledon.

Kokkinakis won their only previous clash, back at the 2018 Acapulco Open.

The 30-year-old pulled off a memorable five-set victory over Terence Atmane at Roland Garros, before retiring in the third set of his second-round clash with Pablo Carreno Busta.

Kokkinakis retired during a subsequent Slovak Open match and warmed up for Wimbledon by appearing at a Dublin Challenger.

After a breakout 2025 season, Bublik has endured a patchy period – including a first-round exit at the French Open to Jan-Lennard Struff. He made the Stuttgart Open semis, losing to Taylor Fritz in two tight sets, then lost to Mattia Bellucci first up at the Halle Open.

Though his booming serve is well-suited to the surface, Kokkinakis has won only two matches at Wimbledon. Bublik reached the fourth round in 2023 and has two grass-court titles to his credit.

With Kokkinakis’ fitness a perpetual question mark, Bublik looks a solid option as a $1.42 favourite here.

Prediction: BACK CILIC TO COVER THE GAMES HANDICAP (+4.5) @ $1.78
