Twelfth seed Marta Kostyuk and 13th seed Jasmine Paolini square off for a spot in the Wimbledon semifinals.
Paolini leads the head-to-head 2-1 after three clashes in 2022-23.
Coming off a maiden WTA 1000 title in Madrid and her first grand slam semifinal appearance at the French Open, Kostyuk has disposed of Nadia Podoroska and Ashlyn Krueger in straight sets either side of three-set wins over Anna Blinkova and 23rd seed Emma Navarro.
Paolini has pieced together her best run at a major since reaching the French Open and Wimbledon finals back-to-back in 2024.
The 30-year-old Italian beat Robin Montgomery in three sets, accounted for Viktorija Golubic and Maria Sakkari in straight sets, then halted rising star Alex Eala 6-4 4-6 6-3.
Both players have solid grass-court games, but Kostyuk’s top-level form over a longer period holds her in good stead for this blockbuster.
Prediction: BACK KOSTYUK TO COVER THE GAMES HANDICAP (-3.5) @ $1.80
A big career milestone awaits the winner of this Wimbledon quarterfinal between ninth seed Linda Noskova and 25th seed Elise Mertens.
Twenty-year-old Noskova’s only previous grand slam quarterfinal appearance was a loss at the 2024 Australian Open, while veteran Mertens’ sole semifinal run was at the 2018 Australia Open. This is already both players’ best Wimbledon showing.
Noskova won the Grass Court Championships in Berlin last month and has carried that form into this tournament, beating Ella Seidel and Madison Keys in straight sets either side of three-set victories against Camila Osorio and – after saving match point – 17th seed Sorana Cirstea.
Mertens’ best grand slam run in almost six years has featured early wins over Laura Siegemund and Maria Timofeeva, before stunning second seed Elena Rybakina 7-6 6-1 and putting away 21st seed Marie Bouzkova 6-4 6-4.
The Belgian’s variety will test hard-hitting Noskova in what shapes as a great contest between two players in a purple patch – expect it to require a deciding set.
Prediction: BACK OVER 22.5 TOTAL GAMES @ $1.90
French Open runner-up and ninth seed Flavio Cobolli lines up in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the second straight year, taking on British wildcard Arthur Fery – who is developing into one of the stories of the tournament.
Adding to the intrigue of this clash, Fery won their only previous encounter, a straight-sets result at the Australian Open earlier this year.
World No.114 Fery – with just one other grand slam win prior to this tournament – won four-setters against Damir Dzumhur and Otto Virtanen in the early rounds, before fighting from behind to beat Zizou Bergs and Grigor Dimitrov in five.
Cobolli has backed up his breakout Roland Garros charge with four-set wins over Mariano Navone and James Duckworth, a gutsy five-set victory over 19th seed Karen Khachanov and a dominant 7-5 7-6 6-3 defeat of fifth seed Alex de Minaur.
Such an authoritative performance against an accomplished grass-courter like de Minaur sounded a big warning to his rivals. Impressive as Fery’s run has been, three of his opponents are ranked outside the top 100. The run looks set to end here.
Prediction: BACK COBOLLI TO WIN 3-0 @ $2.60
After a weather-interrupted Round of 16 victory, second seed Alexander Zverev lines up against sixth seed Taylor Fritz – and a significant hoodoo – for a spot in the Wimbledon semis.
Fritz has come to dominate this rivalry in recent years, building a 10-5 lead over Zverev by winning their last seven matches – a run that began with a five-set win at Wimbledon in 2024 and most recently includes a 6-7 6-4 7-5 victory in the Halle Open semis last month.
Zverev sent Fritz packing from Wimbledon in 2018 and 2021.
French Open champ Zverev has reached the Wimbledon quarters for the first time with a four-set win over Alexander Blockx, straight-sets results against Valentin Royer and Marcos Giron, and a 6-4 7-5 3-6 7-6 defeat of 13th seed Jiri Lehecka that spilled over into a second day.
A semifinalist last year, Fritz has had a smooth ride at the All England Club, chalking up straight-sets wins over Dusan Lajovic and Patrick Kypson, a four-set defeat of Lorenzo Sonego and a 7-6 6-4 6-4 victory against 10th seed Alexander Bublik.
Fritz has dropped only three games on serve so far; Zverev has give up just one service game in each of his matches.
The market can’t split the high-profile pair and the disruption of having had to play a set and a half yesterday may count against Zverev. Nevertheless, it shapes as a lengthy, tense affair requiring multiple tiebreaks.
Their four grand slam encounters to date have all produced games totals of 45-plus.
Prediction: BACK OVER 43.5 TOTAL GAMES @ $1.88
