Second seed Alexander Zverev is searching for a second straight grand slam final appearance – and to extinguish the fairytale wildcard run or Brit Arthur Fery.
World No.114 Fery has become the first British wildcard to reach the Wimbledon semis in 25 years. Prior to this tournament, he’d featured in just four grand slams and won only two matches.
The 23-year-old’s run began with four-set wins over Damir Dzumhur and Otto Virtanen, and five-set victories against Zizou Bergs and veteran Grigor Dimitrov. But the campaign hit genuine dizzy heights with his maiden top-10 win, thrashing French Open runner-up Flavio Cobolli 6-4 7-6 6-0.
Zverev has reached the final of the other three slams but has always struggled at Wimbledon, failing to make it past the Round of 16.
That’s all changed on the back of his French Open triumph, winning four-setters against Alexander Blockx and 13th seed Jiri Lehecka either side of straight-sets defeats of Valentin Royer and Marcos Giron.
Despite the disruption of his Round of 16 match against Lehecka spilling into a second day, he crushed in-form, big-serving sixth seed Taylor Fritz 6-4 6-4 6-2 in the quarters.
The German will be striving to overcome Fery’s nothing-to-lose mindset and a partisan crowd willing on a piece of modern Wimbledon folklore. But Zverev is a step up from Cobolli and should set up a blockbuster against Sinner or Djokovic.

World No.1 and defending champ Jannik Sinner and seven-time winner Novak Djokovic lock horns in a grand slam semi for the seventh time – and their third at Wimbledon.
Djokovic won their 2022 Wimbledon quarterfinal and 2023 semifinal showdowns, but Sinner’s five-match winning streak against the legend including back-to-back semi victories at the 2025 French Open and Wimbledon.
In a massive upset, Djokovic twice came from a set down to beat Sinner in five sets in this year’s Australian Open semis.
After beating Yibing Wu, Stefanos Tstitsipas, Arthur Rinderknech and Roman Safiullin in four-setters, seventh seed Djokovic outlasted third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in an epic five-set match that went for over five hours.
Sinner’s only challenge came in the first round, taken to five sets by Miomir Kecmanovic. He’s since disposed of Nuno Borges, Jenson Brooksby, Shintaro Mochizuki and fairytale story Jan-Lennard Struff without dropping a set.
The Italian heads in as a $1.24 favourite as he looks to improve on a 5-3 grand slam semifinal record. But stumbles in the two 2026 majors so far have chipped away at his air of invincibility.
Djokovic is 38-16 in grand slam semis and has won nine of his last 10 at Wimbledon. Commonsense leans the younger, fresher Sinner’s way – but 39-year-old Djokovic just keeps finding ways of defying that notion.
